Rise Quiz Continue Button... What am I missing

Sigh...

So I am already aware of the restrictions that come with Rise Quiz functionality, but I only have a few hours to throw this together (the build in Storyline and import into Rise solution isn't my best option due to time constraints).

From what I understand, with proper setup, the Continue block should appear after a standalone quiz in Rise.

I have an image of my settings attached in addition to a link to my sample project.  I can't get that continue button to appear.  What am I missing?

TEST ASSESSMENT

  • Thank you for sharing this.  I actually did decide to make the quiz a "standalone".

A Storyline block in Rise doesn't submit quiz data to the LMS.

You could use a "Complete course" trigger on the Success layer of the Results slide to require the user to pass before they can continue in Rise. (See Primer: Storyline-block completions in Rise | Articulate - Community ) Thus, with the quiz in a Storyline block, the client can know that a user passed the quiz, but they can't know the score or which questions they got right and wrong.

Also note that Storyline blocks reset every time a user exits and then returns to the lesson, so the user could bypass the attempts limit in a Storyline block if they exit and return to the course.

Yeah, it would be nice if Rise had the flexibility that Storyline does. Until then, depending on the client's needs, it might be better to build it in and publish it from Storyline.

  • Actually, between

    1.  TRY AGAIN button showing on multiple attempts even if the Learner passes the quiz on the first attempt
    2.  Getting "stuck" in the quiz if you set it to require pass to continue
    3.  The continue button illuminating on multiple attempts if the Learner didn't pass the quiz on the first try (allowing them to skip retries)

I just told the client that he's gonna have to give me extra time to build it out in Storyline (and import into RISE).

Yikes.  There seems to be lots of opportunity for improvement in this space.

  • That makes sense.

Another silly question (I REALLY am not a fan of the Quiz functionality in Rise so I don't use it).  Is it normal just to leave the learner hanging after all attempts?

Without a lesson afterwards... is this where things stop?

Sadly, yes. If the user runs out of attempts and there's no Lesson after the Quiz, all they can do is exit the course.

If there is a Lesson after the Quiz, and you don't require passing the Quiz, the Continue button shows after the user's first attempt, along with the "retry" button. If the user doesn't pass in the allotted number of attempts, the Continue button shows without the "retry" button.

What happens when the user exits depends on the publishing settings and the LMS. For example, the course could be marked as incomplete, or the course could be marked as completed but failed. LMS's are all different, and even the same LMS can be set up differently, so you really need to work with your LMS folks.

  • I set up a quick course with a Quiz and a Lesson after it, and with the Theme settings you used, and the Continue button did appear when I passed the Quiz. In other words, I couldn't replicate the issue.

Do you have a Lesson after the Quiz? If not, there's no place for "Continue" to go.
