Royalty Free Music

I found these a few months ago while scanning portfolios. A fellow at one site dropped a track behind his demo reel. Some of this stuff is really great quality. May come in handy for some polish work when you just don't have a budget. The best part is it's all royalty free and under creative commons license.

Thanks for sharing this extensive list everyone!! I'm specifically looking for free sound effects, i.e. harp sounds, popup window sound effects, and the such. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Sound bible.com has some free sound effects or at least the did the last time I checked.

Try http://www.freesound.org/home/ . It's not always the best quality, but has a lot of free stuff.  You can filter your search to only show Creative Commons effects, or just look at the little grey symbols next to each track.

@Kevin - Thank you so much for posting Kevin MacLeod's site.  I found the absolute perfect music for my presentation, so your post really saved my bacon!  Mmmm... bacon.

Royalty-free music is becoming more of a need than ever as YouTube, Facebook and other social media networks are flagging and removing content with audio that violates copyright. Songs under Creative Commons are great but you don't have a lot of flexibility and the terms can vary.

Sure, there are resources that offer free music and audio content, but truthfully the best selection of royalty free is going to come from dedicated services whom charge on a per song or per annual membership fee.

Here's a in-depth article that highlights the top resources for finding music for YouTube, etc.:

  • YouTube also now has an audio library full of royalty free music (there are some which require royalties so look out for the icon).
