Saving Rise Source Files to Local Hard Drive
Hi
Currently it does not seem possible to save the Rise source files to one's local machine. As we plan do develop some modules in Rise for clients, we would need to send them the source files if they would like to modify the modules themselves at a later stage.
I understand that there may be sharing of Rise files between accounts for collaborative work in the near future, is there a timeframe for rollout on this?
Do you know if or how source files can be saved, or when this may be implemented?

I guess the answer to my question is there isn't a viable way to do this in RISE?

This is our problem. Basically, you can't unless you have a licence. Ideally, we want an offline editor like Storyline. We have stopped using Rise for this reason

Hi James,
Sorry you hit a roadblock here.
You’re correct, there isn’t a viable way to do that in Rise unless- as Jonathan mentioned- the person you’d like to be the new owner has a subscription to Articulate 360. Here’s more on how that works.
If you have additional questions please let me know - I’d be happy to help.

Hi,
is there any update or feature planned to export to a storyline file etc.?
We have just started building courses using Rise but I will be recommending we do not continue if source files cannot be stored externally without a subscription.
Hi Jason,
Since Rise 360 is a web app and there's no way to edit sources files on the desktop, we don't have any plans to allow you to export the source files. I'm sorry to hear that that may be a dealbreaker for you.
If there’s anything else I can do to help, please let me know.

A question that I've been asked several times by Senior Management is "what happens to our Rise course library if something catastrophic happens to Articulate from which they are unable to recover?"
All Rise users should be concerned about this issue.
Yes, we have exported all of our courses as PDF's and we also have SCORM packages as ZIP files of all of our courses but we need something closer to the source.
We also have our original documents from which the courses were created, but they often do not get updated when Rise course content is updated.
As a minimum provide a new ZIP export type for a course that can be downloaded that has all of the text pulled out into one folder, media into another folder, etc. So in a worst case scenario we would at least have all the course assets if we need to rebuild in another tool.

Thanks for sharing your concerns about trust and data security, Karl. Our Trust Center explains our approach to security and data protection, and here are a few highlights:
- All Articulate services are hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the us-east-1 region located in northern Virginia in the United States.
- AWS is an extremely reliable hosting provider with track records of 99.5-99.9% uptime in a rolling monthly window.
- We make frequent automated backups of customer data and have implemented up-to-the-minute recovery options where feasible. We store backups in a redundant way and test our recovery frequently to reduce the likelihood of data loss and minimize downtime in a large-scale disaster.
- We also host your data across multiple AWS server storage facilities. This means more than one data center could be offline simultaneously and you wouldn't lose access to Articulate 360 apps.
- In the event of a disaster, we have processes in place to rebuild our entire data infrastructure and restore service as quickly as possible.
If you have other specific concerns about data security, we have a compliance team devoted to answering these kinds of questions. Feel free to reach out!

Agreed with the above two posts. Because of these glaring and seemingly insurmountable issues (it's been a couple years now!!), we absolutely cannot use Rise, though it was neat to play with, due to the above-mentioned issues. These are absolutely critical issues for any type of eLearning development in a corporate environment or in any strictly-regulated industry - of which I'm both.
It's too bad though, it was a fun development tool!

I guess I'll throw my 2 cents in with the hope it will add another voice. I've been working on convincing my leadership to move to Rise for months now. I believe I had a breakthrough this last week only to realize we can't control source files. This may be the deal breaker for us as well.
Thanks for your feedback, Russell. I'll add your voice to this request.

I also regret having proposed to and developed courses in Rise for my clients; now I don't know how to explain to them that they will have to keep an active subscription just to avoid the source files from being deleted. A total disappointment.

Like Cass says, if you follow that system you'll be probably okay. We've had people come and go over the past couple years, and so far the only real issue is the connection between the Rise "file" and it's respective Review view mode/hyperlink. You'll break any review links when you transfer ownership. They'll still work for reviewers, but if you publish a new version for review, you'll need to resend the link - it also "overwrites" all comments up to that point, since it actually publishes a new version of the Review version of the course, totally separate from what people have already been looking at.

Hi Paul,
Although not optimal, you could send a copy of the Rise source to a client at the end of your contractual work. Granted that would require someone on your client's team to have an Articulate/Rise 360 license and maintain, but that gives them ownership over the source (well a copy of it) that is unique and can be updated at their discretion. If necessary, they can contract another freelance person w/ a 360 license and send a copy to them to make updates.
As I mentioned, not necessarily optimal-- but negates the need to have you be the primary gatekeeper of the project's source file once the work is complete. - SamLincolnCommunity Member
Couldn't agree more. Just lost two prospects because of this. It's killing Articulate's good reputation. Rise's usefulness is being seriously compromised. Sort this out & you'll keep customers; don't & you'll see a drift away I'm afraid.

Has there been any updates on this? I am hired as a contractor for a university and I currently use RISE to design courses. However it would be nice that I could save a copy of the SOURCE files somewhere so that if someone else needs to update/modify the file they are able to do so. At least with Storyline 360 you can do so but unfortunately RISE does not have a local file that everything gets saved to. Any update would be great. Thanks.
