SL2 Slides Go White and Fill with a Big Red X
I'm using the 30-day trial of Storyline 2 to edit a project (from my local hard drive) which was started in Storyline 1 in a Windows 7 environment. After editing for awhile my slide suddenly goes white and is replaced with a big red X. I've closed and restarted SL2, made duplicates of the slide and the file - no go. I've created a new project and imported the old file - no go. I can see slides but as soon as I try to edit I get the big red X - please help.

I found a quick workaround that works for me. When I see the red X, I save my file and close SL2. Then I make a copy of the file and open the newly copied file. Somehow, the red x is now gone and I can continue editing. I know it doesn't really make sense... but hope this helps!

Thanks Christine. This worked for me and saved me getting a few extra grey hairs. Has a solution been found for this bug? I am using the latest version of SL2 and I thought I had read somewhere what the issue was. Can't find it now of course. In my case, I was trying to paste a table from Word 2010 when I got the red cross syndrome.

The first time I saw this issue, I had created a table in Outlook and then copied and pasted that onto my Storyline slide. Afterwards, every time I clicked to edit the text in the table in Storyline I would see the white screen with the red X.
Hi Dorothy,
Have you tried importing it into a new file? In addition to working locally you'll want to ensure the file name and path matches the guidelines here.

That worked! Thank you!

I was receiving this issue still... 4 years after these posts. It's a bit shocking to see a proper solution has not made it to the final product. What resolved it for me is Christine's solution of copying the file and opening the copy.

Hello Keith,
We are sorry you are experiencing this issue. Please verify that you are working locally as described here.
You can also try to import the file into a new storyline file.
If the issue persists, you can repair Storyline.

Emily,
Thanks for your response. I've tried importing the project into a new file and the problem persists. And I'm accessing and saving the file locally to my hard drive. I've noticed that the red x appears and goes away as I enter or exit text boxes on any of my slides. Just before this happened for the first time I was applying a strikethrough font effect to a phrase in a numbered list. Not sure if it's relevant but I'm using the Chronicle font. At this point, the only work around I've found is to delete my earlier text boxes and recreate them - I'm avoiding numbered lists and font effects.

I had this issue too when trying to copy and paste a chart from Microsoft Word. Even though the chart did not work, any subsequent cut and paste would result in a white box with red cross. I had to close both programs and reopen them. To get the chart over I had to save it as an image and import.

I had the same problem as well, imported PowerPoint slides into Storyline. Just clicking in a text box makes it go all white boxy. Strange.

Hello Alan,
We would suggest to Import the files into a new Storyline file, or try to Repair Storyline and see if this helps your issue.
