Brief flash between slide layers
Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows what I could do to resolve this issue. I keep seeing all the items briefly flash at the beginning of every slide layer. I am not sure why this is.
I've made sure these items do not have animations. I've made sure all transitions are "none." The slide properties that are currently checked are "hide other slide layers," "hide objects on base layer," and "prevent the user from clicking on other layer."
The flashing is disruptive to the flow of the course because it makes it look like a slide header is reappearing over and over again when in fact, it is not.
Could someone please give advice? Thank you!

Yes I am getting this too

I am wondering if this is a bug or something from a new update. It seems like a very brief lag between layers. Because if you go through all of the slides and layers and then go back to review, they work just fine. So it seems like a load issue, you know? Seems like an issue that Articulate might have to fix.
Hi JenniferJack!
Sorry to hear you're experiencing flashes between slide layers in Storyline!
I see that you've already connected with my colleague John, through a support case. We can continue the conversation there to keep all information in one spot.

What previous version would you all recommend as a workaround? Loving the new features, but they aren't worth putting up with the choppy and unappealing published output we're getting currently with these 'flashes'.
Hello LaurenHamilton,
Sorry to hear that you ran into this bug. We recommend downgrading to Storyline 360 version 3.90 and below as a workaround while waiting for a fix to be released.

I can't see the project, but I have had issues where I just removed any animations on the second slide that were carrying over. For example, if the header fades in on 1 but stays on two, I remove the animation on 2 so it keeps on the screen between slide movements.
Hope that does it for you.

Thank you but no, that is not the issue. The header fades in on the base layer but stays on the second layer. I removed the fade in animation from the header for layer two. The issue is that all objects flash quickly every time a new layer loads. I am wondering if it is just the course loading slowly. Because when revisiting the slide and layers a second time, they load just fine without blinking.

Have you considered putting the header on a master slide? If you change the text, you could just put the box or image there so it is static in all slides and have the text differ from slide to slide.

I use the same master slide for multiple slides with different headers. I suppose this could work, but I feel like it may be a work around rather than a solution. I am actually thinking this may be a bug from the new update.

Update:
I should mention that when going through all the layers a first time and then going back to review, everything loads fine without the brief flash. Since this is the case, I am thinking it is a lag. But I am experiencing it everywhere, even when I publish the project. So I am thinking this is an issue that Articulate will have to fix. Maybe one of the recent updates affected the runtime and now we see more of a lag between layers.

Another update!
I spoke with Articulate support and they have marked the issue as a possible bug. They tried the same course in an older version of the software and it worked just fine. So they told me in the meantime, download an older version of the software. They said they would provide me any updates as they got them.
Thanks for sharing updates here, Jennifer. For the reference of affected community members who'd like to apply the workaround, here's how to install an earlier version of Storyline 360.

Any update on whether a fix is in the works for this?
- JenniferJackCommunity Member
Sorry, no. Articulate has not updated me, but my case is still open. I will update if they ever let me know that the issue is resolved.

Hi all
Thanks Jennifer for lodging a support request and everyone for their suggestions...
An FYI - Unfortunately this issue is persisting I have ran into the same issue of base layer flashing briefly at start of all layers regardless of triggers and settings used. I tried the workaround suggested above - 'rewind the version back to 3.90'. However after installing older version I received an error message when I tried to view the slide and layers - 'this version does not support AI Assist features, please upgrade to the newest version. So I am still stuck with a slide that doesn't display properly and makes my work appear and perform to a subpar standard!!
Hi all!
We just released Storyline 360 (Build 3.94.33511.0), which includes a fix for a bug that was reported in this thread: slides could flicker when navigating between layers.
To take advantage of this fix and others, all you need to do is update Storyline 360 in your Articulate 360 desktop app!

I installed the new version and I am still seeing the same bug with the flashing layers. So this did not resolve the issue.
Hello JenniferJack! Is it possible that you could share your .story file with us? I just tested this on my end and found the flicker no longer appears when viewing the course in Update 94.
You can either share the .story file in this discussion or privately in a support case.

It's still happening to me as well.

This is still happening to me as well. I've attached an example .story file I just quickly made in the newest version of Storyline. I tried a few scenarios and it appears that the problem exists in preview when advancing automatically to slide layers that contain an object/text in the same place. This is shown in "Test 1" in the attached file.
I've published the file in review and noticed the situation occurred in the published output as well. https://360.articulate.com/review/content/617f8e9d-5c60-4836-9778-242c4f3860bd/review
