sliding bullets in one at a time

i have imported a PPT into storyline and have numerous slides with lists of bullets.  i would like the bullets to slide in one at a time.  i have searched unsuccessfully for the "how-to" and suspect it's either not easy or i'm missing something obvious.  could someone please direct me toward the instructions?  thank you!!

  • If you line them all up on the timeline, each bullet at the same point, they should come in at the same time. Now the bigger question is, did you separate your bullets on the PPT, or are they all in one paragraph? If they are all in one paragraph you may need to do a little more work.

Good luck, let me know if you need some help.

thank you SO much!  i knew there had to be an easier way.  i get the concept but now my issue is that my list of 6 bullets came in as one text box.  there is no toggle arrow to display them all individually so that i can adjust entry.  i tried hitting return at the end of each bullet but that didn't get what i needed.  how do i get each bullet to be its own paragraph?  thank you!!

  • It's possible the bullets aren't recognized as more than a single paragraph. I'd select the text and turn off bullets and then turn them back on. And then see if they all appear as bullets or just the first line.

unfortunately, that didn't work either.  i also tried deleting the existing box of bullets, created a new text box in storyline, and manually typed a few bullet lines, hitting Enter at the end of each one.  they were not seen as separate paragraphs tho.  i must be missing something...

Lori, check your Effect Options animation setting. That's where you tell Storyline to bring on the paragraphs one by one.

After you do that, follow the instructions from the link Walt provided:

  • that did it!! thank you so much!!  huge help!!

is there any sort of suggested standard for how many seconds to wait before bringing in the next single-line bullet?

is there a way to make bullets appear left to right instead of bottom to top?

If you look at the image in my previous comment, you'll see that the Effect Options drop-down lets you specify a direction for the animation.

As for timing: I hate it when a course slows down the entrance of text. I assume that is usually done to increase seat time and to (try to) force folks to read the text. But it's frustrating if one reads faster than the entrance timing. I also think it's distracting, because if I am reading and something else moves on the slide, that will pull my attention.

So, personally, I think it's best to either have all of the text appear quickly or to add controls for the user to bring on additional text when they're ready.
