Storyline not saving work

I have been working on a storyline project all day. I have not closed it. When I went to my browser to look up a tutorial, and came back to storyline, half of my work is gone. How can I recover it?

  • Hello Nicole,

Sorry to hear about your project file.

Were you working directly from a network drive when the incident occurred? We recommend authors to work locally when making changes to their project file, as having the file hosted on a network drive has been known to cause issues with saving.

If you were working locally, have you tried checking your temp files to see if there's a usable version of your course there? Here's how to check:

    1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline

    2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.

    3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.

    4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.

Let me know how it goes!

I am also having issues with Storyline not fully saving my projects. Despite watching the saving process and seeing the timestamp update in the file location, when I return to my project to work on it further, much of the last changes I made before saving are gone and need to be redone.

      Hello Melissa,

Can you confirm if you are working locally when making changes to your project file? If you are working directly on a network drive, try moving your project to a local directory on your computer to see if this helps.

If the issue persists, open a case with our support team here so we can take a closer look at what's happening.
