Storyline vs RISE Publishing

As a contractor, I work with multiple clients developing training modules in Articulate Storyline and Rise. Some clients provide their own Articulate licenses, while others do not—in those cases, I use my own license to develop their training content.

The challenge I’m running into is related to file transfer. When I use my license to develop Storyline content, I’m unable to transfer the published ZIP file directly to the client’s PC due to their system’s external file transfer restrictions. With Rise, this is not an issue because it generates an email-based download link for the published content, which I can send to the client for download, bypassing those restrictions.

Is there a similar method for distributing Storyline publications—such as a secure link or hosted download option—that would allow the client to retrieve the content without requiring direct file transfer?

  • Maybe use something like BaseCamp or We Transfer to share files

Hi Ron, thanks for sharing. Unfortunately, in this case, the client’s security restrictions also limit access to most external file-sharing platforms like WeTransfer and BaseCamp, which is why Rise’s built-in email/download option has worked so well—it stays within their approved channels.

That’s why I was hoping there might be a Storyline equivalent that allows for a similar hosted or link-based distribution method without relying on third-party file transfer tools.

When ever I have a client that has extreme restrictions on external files, it is 100% on them to offer access to their internal document server. Get them to create a folder and send you a link to the folder (I'll also assume they will add a password).

If they do not have this, they should still find a solution. Whether their IT department give you specific access, or something.

You could attach the zipped Storyline course as a 'File Attachment' block in Rise, then share the Rise link which should allow the recipient to download the zip.
