Supported Screen Readers

Hello Team,

I noticed that you don't mention Windows Narrator in your screen reader guidance. Does Articulate Storyline 360 support Narrator? Is there anything to look out for when working with Narrator?

Thank you Phil. Since I am doing work specifically for Microsoft, I need to be able to give them guidance specifically. Thats why I need to know if it's supported or not or if there has been any testing using Narrator.

  • Then you probably don't want to tell them what I said. Historically Narrator was known as the tool you used to download JAWS or NVDA, but has improved since then.

Hopefully one of the Articulate Staff can give you a definitive answer.

Thank you Phil. I do know they are investing a lot of effort to improve Narrator right now. They have huge investments into inclusivity.

      Hello Andrew!

Great question! Narrator should work with our content just like JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, and TalkBack.

@Lauren, unfortunately, in my testing that doesn't seem to be the case.

Here are the things I have notices

    1. Narrator doesn't read anything on hover like NVDA does. (Text boxes and player navigation)

    2. Narrator skips textbox and only reads the hot spots that I have entered event using tab order.

I have attached the Storyline file I am testing in. It would be great to be able to hove over the links and text and have them read similar to NVDA.

Narrator has quite a lot of settings for the cursor you can set it to read and interact and that should read what is under the cursor. The browser support for narrator can be flakey when compared to the OS.

Phil, thank you so much. This is what I was looking for. I am kicking myself right now.

I just tested and it works much better than I thought.
