Timeline is not working.

In the Stroyline version (3.98) we are not able to preview using the timeline. Once the play button is clicked, there is not movement on the timeline. Can you look into and let us know how to resolve this. This issue was not occurring in the older version.

Jose, here is another report of this behavior from another user.  The preview button is not triggering motion in the slide window in new .story files, downloaded .story files, and file templates.  DarrellSangrio- offered steps to uninstall, scrub, and reinstall.  I am currently working on the Windows 11 suggestions but, after 9 times installing with no success, I'm lost as to what is happening to cause this.

        Hello trainertx1,

Sorry to hear that you're still experiencing the issue. Would you mind sharing your support case number so I can let Darrell know the problem is still happening? I can also take a look at the issue if you want. Feel free to share a quick Peek 360 recording of how you're testing the timeline so I can recreate the behavior. I'd like to test your setup using older versions of Storyline 360 to pinpoint the exact version that caused the behavior to change.

  • Hi, did you get any answer for this issue? I just have a new PC with window 11 and I have the same issue, the timeline is not working when I click the "play" button.

      Hi BelenIglesias-f!

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with the playback of your Storyline course!

I see that you've already opened a support case, that's been received by our support engineers. You're in excellent hands troubleshooting with them, and they should be following up with you shortly.

We can continue the conversation through your case to keep all information in one spot.

Yes, I am still working with the team, but after a month we didn't get any solution.

      Hello cs2229

Thanks for reaching out, and sorry to hear you're running into the same issue.

Just to help narrow things down: does the play button in the timeline not work across all your Storyline courses, or is it only happening in a specific file?

If it’s affecting all your projects and you’re already working directly from your local hard drive, you might want to try repairing your Storyline installation. You can follow the steps here:

If the problem continues, we’d be happy to take a closer look. You’re welcome to share your Storyline project file here in the thread or send it to us privately in a support case, and one of our Support Engineers can work with you directly. Files are deleted when testing is complete.

Let us know how things go. We’re here to help.

  • I, too, am having this issue on only the slide I created with a 360 image interaction. The timeline plays for other slides, but not his one, making it difficult to synch the text with narration. It appears that the 360 image interaction is the culprit. When I deleted that from the base layer, I was able to play the timeline and synch the text to the narration of the other layers, Then I recreated the base layer.

      Hi JenniferTomarch,

      Thanks for reaching out!

If you re-add the image to the slide after deleting it, does the issue persist? Have you tried using a different image to see if that makes a difference? If you're willing to share your file here, or privately in a case, I'd be happy to take a look at what's going on!

You don't have to delete the 360° image, just make it invisible and the timeline should work.

  • Apparently, this bug has unfortunately still not been fixed after almost a year.
    Storyline build_3.112.36406.0

Slide works perfectly, add a 360° image and the timeline stops working, remove the 360° image (or even make the layer invisible) and the timeline works again. Even worse, if you have other slide layers on the slide with audio, these timelines stop working as well. Remove the 360° on the baselayer or make it invisible and all the slide layers work fine again. No issues with regular images, clearly issues with 360°.. great.

      Hi ErjenAdriaen200,

Sorry to hear that you've run into this setback, working with 360-degree images in Storyline.

Using version 3.112.36406.0, I tested a sample file with a 360-degree image and multiple actions set to the timeline. Such as Text-to-Speech audio, and objects with motion paths. After publishing to Review 360, the timeline functioned as expected.

It would be helpful if we could see a copy of your project file where this behavior occurs. Do you mind uploading that .story file here in the discussion, or through a support case?

  • Hello Steven,
    Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately I can't upload the project because I'm not allowed to share the content.

I have different 360° images in the same project and it's only 1 where this occurs.
The published output is fine and I can time the animations on the voice by making the layer temporarily invisible.

      Hi ErjenAdriaen200,

Thanks for sharing those details. That’s really helpful, especially noting that it only happens with a specific 360° image and not others.

Since the issue is tied to a single asset and works as expected when the image is hidden, it does suggest something specific to that file rather than a general behavior with 360° images.

You’re on the right track using visibility as a workaround to sync your timeline. Another thing you might try is replacing that specific 360° image with a fresh copy (or re-exporting it) to see if the behavior changes.

If possible, starting a support case would be the best next step so the team can take a closer look at that specific interaction.

Appreciate you sharing your findings here!
