Track external ressources in SL

Hello everyone
I’ve been creating interactive content in Storyline for a few years now.
These are interactive learning journeys. I often have more than 130 slides, each with several layers.
I embed the following within them:
- videos in iframes, as they are hosted on a separate dedicated platform
- MP3 podcasts that aren’t hosted elsewhere, so they’re embedded directly into my SL package
- links to external files (URLs or files on my hard drive)

Sometimes my client asks me to change an iframe for a video, or to replace the MP3s, or even to change the links.
So every time, it’s a hassle to track down these elements. I have to search slide by slide.
So now I make lists of the SL slides that contain this or that, whilst designing the interactive journey. It works, but it’s not practical at all. And it’s a source of oversights and therefore errors.

Do you have any tips for
- listing the slides that contain iframes, for example
- or for searching for and testing all external links (as in InDesign)

Thanks in advance and have a lovely day everyone

Hi, I’ve faced this challenge too with large Storyline projects. A few things that help:

    • Use the Media Library to track and replace all audio/video in one place
    • Rename web objects (iframes) clearly in the timeline (e.g., “iframe_video_1”) so they’re easier to find
    • Add a small hidden text or note (like “iframe” or “link”) and use Ctrl+F to quickly locate slides- this saved my life most of the time to keep a text filed to serach the items qickly
    • Maintain a simple Excel tracker with slide numbers and links/assets
    • Use variables for URLs so you can update links in one place instead of slide by slide
    • I’ve also managed iframe videos using JavaScript by loading a master web object from a server and dynamically changing the video based on the slide number. This way, you only need to maintain a single HTML file instead of updating each slide.
  • Hi
I thank you for your ideas! i will take a glance.

The first idea is excellent... for imported medias and generated voices for example. It is perfect!

The second idea is good, but i just can't find objects. They are all named "vidéo web" (in french) but if i try ctrl+F, impossible to find them. it would be a good solution.

The excel file : it is already what i try to do but it not the best solution imho.

Could you please develop and explain me the solution with the variable?
Let's imagine we have to aim https://www.google.com how do you achieve this with variables?

I have created a texte variable with the URL. And then?

    Thank you!
