Undoing Storyline Format Painter causes the program to freeze

Has anyone come across this issue? I use format painter to apply styles to button states. While working, I clicked on a text box by mistake. It applied the style and all of the states, which you can see in the screenshot.

When I tried to undo the mistake, Storyline freezes. ESC doesn't work. It is dead in the water. I have to go to Task Manager where you can see that the program is unresponsive:

I have to End Task and lose 20 minutes of work. I have had this happen at least three times in the last few months. I do save often because Storyline is somewhat unstable. I know that table formatting, freeform question feedback layers, and other functions often cause freezing or crashing, but the problem with format painter is new to me. 

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there any other way to get out of this without using Task Manager and losing work?

    Sorry to hear that you ran into this issue.

    Crashing in Storyline 360 shouldn't be a common occurrence, and I'd like to understand why this is happening frequently for you. Can I ask if you are working locally when making changes to your project file? If you are, try the following troubleshooting steps to see if they make any difference:
