Using one Storyline Course to Populate Features in Another Course

We have been using Storyline 360 to develop a game-based course. We are trying to automate the process of entering information into Storyline or Rise from another course or external authoring tool in order to make game creation easier.

Our use case is to develop a system for instructors to develop their own games by selecting drop down options in one Storyline course (or other authoring tool), and have the options they selected populate template slides in a new course. Is this even possible within either Storyline or Rise?

Any help on automating the process of bringing information from an outside sources to Storyline or Rise would be appreciated.

  • In fact i just finished a game setup where multiple groups of students will vote on topics.

The workflow you mention is what i have in mind too. And it is possible. I would love to help.
Today i have live meetings to test the game mentioned. A lot of what you write about is in it.
I cannot share it publicly here, but can show it to you and discuss possibilities.

Contact me at m.notermans@tilburguniversity.edu and lets discuss how we can help eachother.

      Hi Math,

Thanks for the response. I would love to see if there is a solution to this idea and use our existing Storyline 360 software instead of looking for another authoring system. Happy to set up a Zoom call and hear more about your ideas (I am in California, so it looks like you are eight hours ahead of us).

Briefly, for a National Science Foundation (USA) grant we developed a microlearning game focused on teaching Cyber Security concepts. For our follow up proposal we would like to create a system that would allow instructors to create their own games by answering a series of questions (or selecting menu options), which would then help to populate slides in Storyline. Some questions might require open-ended responses if instructors want to add in new content beyond what we might have in the system. I asked Articulate support and they did not have an answer other than saying they would put it down as a feature request (linking Storyline courses so answers in one can populate slides in another).

      Thanks!

  • What i read.. that is possible. The game im gonna test today in fact has 4 published scenes/Storylines.  1 generic one, 1 for Team 2 and 2 voting parts for mobiles and other devices. In the generic one the game starts...data and votes all shared between the 4 Storylines.

If wanted you even can make an editor for a Storyline course that online can dynamically update/change images and text ( and even video ) in another course. The basics for all that i have working.

Im now off for campus for the test. Do plan a Zoom meeting for sometime tomorrow or Thursday.

    Kind regards,
    Math

      Hi Math,

Interesting to see how your project goes. Best time for me to talk on Tuesday would be 11am my time which I believe would be 7:00pm your time, or after 1pm my time, 9pm your time. Is that too late for you? Thursday I would be available after 12pm my time, 8pm your time. Next week I could also talk late night here (1am) which would be your morning (9am).

      Good luck with your testing.
