Video not autoplaying - displaying black screen with play button instead

Hi All

I've added a video to my first slide, and used the Video Options to set it to Autoplay, plus I set up a trigger to play the video when the timeline starts.

However, when I upload it to a browser or view it in Review 360, it's showing a black screen with a play button and the name of my SL file above it, which is not a great user experience. It's also doing this when I upload the SCORM file to WorkRamp, my client's LMS.

It's important the video autoplays at the beginning of the piece as this is meant to be a teaser and is meant to have impact.

I've seen elsewhere on this forum that this may be a browser limitation?

I wanted to check if that is the case though, and if anyone has seen any good workarounds (given that this is meant to be a high-impact teaser piece.)

thanks for any advice!

Adrian

Insert a blank slide before your slide with the video in it.

On your new slide add a trigger to jump to the next slide after 0.5 seconds, it's important this new slide doesn't have any media in it.

  • As ChrisHurst1  suggested, the blank slide is the key. This is due to Browser restrictions.  Once you Select Play (Triangle) to start the course, you should not have any issues.

Also, if you have the video options set to play automatically, you do not need the trigger to play when the timeline starts.

Thank you both for your suggestions!

I added a blank slide to the start of my SL file, setting it to jump to next slide (video slide) when timeline reaches .5 seconds.

    I'm still having 2 issues:

    1. When I view it in Review 360, it looks like I need to click the screen to get the video to play - is that normal (if so I'll add some sort of instruction to that blank screen to let the user know what to do?)

    2. When I publish the teaser as a weblink, I'm just getting a blank black screen and no content (ie. it doesn't progress to the blank red screen nor the video at all).

    Here's my web link: https://hub-academy-teaser.s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com/story.html

I've attached my SL file - any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks again for all your help! 🙏

      Hello Thinkaway

Thanks for reaching out with your project file!

      1.  What browser are you currently using? I can confirm that some browsers require user interaction to initiate any course content, even if there's no media on the first slide. This is a common behavior to ensure that users are ready to engage with the content.

      2. I tested your web link on my end, and I can successfully navigate through your course. I'm curious if you still experience this in another browser or incognito window.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
