Why has storyline files disappeared?

Hi everyone,

I am using a Mac that is running Storyline on Parallels Desktop, which runs Windows 11. I was saving my storyline files on my c drive within a folder that said "my storyline files." Unfortunately, I cannot find this folder or the files! I know I would not delete them!

My company is in the process of migrating all the computers to OneDrive, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it!

If anyone has a remedy for fixing this, I would greatly appreciate it. Fortunately, I have not lost any significant files.

Thank you! :)

  • Hi CJLu,

I understand why this would be concerning, especially when the folder seemed to disappear unexpectedly.

It’s possible the OneDrive migration is related, especially if your Windows folders were automatically redirected or synced during the transition. In some cases, folders that looked local on the C: drive may have been moved into OneDrive-managed locations.

A few places I’d recommend checking first:

    • Your OneDrive folders in Windows (especially Documents/Desktop)
    • Windows Search for .story files
    • The Windows Recycle Bin
    • Recent files in Storyline 360
    • The Parallels shared folders/settings if your Mac folders are mapped into Windows

One thing to keep in mind is that Storyline projects work best when actively edited from a local, non-synced folder. Cloud-sync services like OneDrive can sometimes move, lock, or sync files in ways that make them difficult to locate or can even lead to file corruption during active authoring.

Hopefully the files were relocated rather than deleted, especially since this coincided with the migration.
