Audio autostart
I need to have the audio automatically start on each lesson. How can I do this?
- MaryGoemanCommunity Member
I disagree. I build courses for many large organizations for CE credit and other certifications. They don't want extra "clicks" when viewing a course. When it's for continuing education and they get to that part of the course it should have the option to auto play and auto advance.

Well said :)
+1 for this feature

Facing same problem, i think auto play option should be their.
Hey Mary - just a bit more color on this. We have shied away from auto-start of media because it's not a web-standard experience on multi-device. For example, if you were on a site on your phone and all of sudden it started playing audio or video it would be a pretty intrusive experience.

Hi Adam, I've come to this thread through a different one about auto-play. If a student or learner is on a mobile device to take a course, that's very different than just casually browsing a website, so I don't see that as a one-to-one comparison. It seems like auto-play should be a feature that designers can select if they want to use it for learning. An instructional designer always can state to users in course instructions that the audio will auto-play, learners should be using headphones, etc., in order to give learners a heads up and establish what the norms and expectations are for taking the course.

Hello. I know this post is 4 years old but I would like to throw my two cents in about this. I agree that random audio popping up on my phone when I don't expect it is annoying, but if I am running a training course, I kind of expect audio to play. I would almost expect people to wonder if there is something wrong with their audio connection if it didn't start up automatically. I would REALLY like to see this function added to Rise. Given that if I create a course in Storyline, which can also easily be viewed on a phone, I can hear auto-played audio in that case.
Thanks

We like to use intro/exit music in our courses... so it would be a great feature to have an option in the title page or as an option for other blocks. Would like to see the option of being able to 'attach' an audio file to the same block as an image, for example.

You can auto-play of a Storyline Block - so that's a pretty useful workaround. Just put it at the top of your lesson, and never out more than one in a lesson!

How do you do this?
Hi Kateline,
You can add a Storyline block to Rise as shown here.
I'm not clear the specifics of what Matt set up, so I'll leave that to him! If you'll be using your Rise course on a mobile device, keep in mind that you'll see the Storyline block with a play button as it's designed to showcase the Storyline course in it's own player.
Hello Mary,
I hate to be the bearer of bad new for you today :( but "autoplay" of any nature is currently not supported in Rise.
Please feel free to submit a Feature Request and we'll hopefully make it happen for you sometime soon.
All the best!

Matt's right about the auto-play behavior of Storyline blocks, and it's a helpful workaround. But as Ashley rightly pointed out, it works only on desktops/laptops.
The way to do this is pretty simple. Create a slide in Storyline and add any text/picture/icon or animation with audio (NOT a video file). Remove menu elements by going to Player and then just publish it to Articulate Review. Add the Storyline block to your Rise course by following the instructions Ashley shared. And it's done!
I've created a sample Rise course here as a demo. Let me know if you have any questions about it.
Hope this helps!

Darn I could not open this for some reason; I wanted to see your example!

Sorry to hear that Janet. I just checked the link and it's working. Not sure what the issue could be. Maybe you could try opening it on a different machine or in a different browser?

Hi Mohammed, how did you get the animation to work automatically in your example? I have it all set up in Storyline but when I add the block to Rise, it's still making me click a start button. (like video). I'm on a desktop. Thanks for the help.
Forgot to mention - on most phone browsers, they actually prevent auto-play of media. It needs to be user-initiated.

Some social media sites have auto-play of video, and the user needs to interact to initiate the audio. That might be something to consider, at least as an option, as it helps to draw the user in.
Good point Dawn, like how Facebook and Instagram will start playing the videos as you scroll over them, but not start the audio without a click. I only use the apps myself, so I just took a look at videos within Facebook while viewing in a Safari mobile browser and they didn't auto play (audio or video). So it seems like something they're able to control in app only?
Thanks Mary for sharing here - as it can certainly be a bit of personal preference. As Adam mentioned it was something we didn't include based on the different device experiences and the mobile set up specifically where the audio/video doesn't automatically play (not just within Articulate's courses) but having that additional information from users like yourself will help us continue to keep the conversation going internally and figure out any next steps.

In the Home Depot Rise course illustrated in these forums, a couple of their videos DO autostart! I wonder how they did it?

Hey Adam they are using Gifs. I've been playing around with Gifs in my courses...and it's pretty cool. You can add them anywhere there is an image block. There's also a great app for mac called Gif Brewery that allows you to create your own Gifs.
Hope that helps.
