You can control the appearance of the question list in your published quiz. Explore the options below. (To display the question list, you’ll need to enable it in the player.)

Customizing the Question List

To customize your question list, go to the Home tab on the Quizmaker ribbon and click Player.

When the Player Properties window appears, click Question List on the ribbon. As you make changes to the options on the left side of the window, the preview area on the right will update to reflect your choices.

Changing Titles in the Question List

The items you see in the question list default to the slide titles you see in Question List View and Slide View.

You can change the slide titles here in the player without affecting the actual slide content. To change the name of a slide in the question list:

  1. Select the slide title you want to edit and click the Rename question button at the bottom of the list.
  2. Type the new name and press Enter on your keyboard.

Removing Slides from the Question List

Sometimes it’s helpful to hide a slide title from the question list. Just select the slide in the editor and click the Remove from question list button (the eye icon) in the lower left corner of the window.

Hidden slide titles become italicized in the editor, so it's easy to see which slides have been hidden. They’ll still be part of your published quiz; their titles just won't appear in the question list.

To unhide a slide title, select it and click the eye icon again.

Resetting the Question List

If you change your mind about the edits you've made to the question list, click the Reset question titles button to return the list to its original state.

Wrapping Long Titles and Showing Tooltips

If some of your slide titles are too long to display in the width of the published question list, you can wrap the text or show tooltips when learners hover over them. Here's how:

  1. Click the Additional Options button (the gear icon) below the question list.
  2. When the Additional Options window opens, mark the box to Wrap long question list item titles if you want the text to wrap.
  3. Mark the box to Show tooltip on hover to display a tooltip when learners hover over long titles.
  4. Click OK.

Restricting Navigation

The default navigation method is free, meaning learners can view slides in any order they choose.

If learners must proceed through the quiz in a specific order, you can restrict or lock navigation to prevent them from jumping to slides out of order.

  1. Click the Additional Options button (the gear icon) below the question list.
  2. When the Additional Options window appears, use the Navigation Restrictions drop-down list to choose one of these options:
    • Free: This lets learners navigate to any part of the quiz at any time. They can view slides in any order.
    • Restricted: This means learners can view the current slide and any slide they previously viewed, but they can't jump ahead or skip over slides using the question list.

If you also want to restrict the player navigation buttons, mark the corresponding box to Restrict Next/Previous buttons.
    • Locked: This means learners can only view slides in the order you've designed. They can't jump ahead or skip over slides, nor can they go back to any previously viewed slides using the question list.

If you also want to lock the player navigation buttons, mark the corresponding box to Lock Next/Previous buttons.
  3. Click OK when you're done.

Displaying Correct and Incorrect Icons

You can display correct and incorrect icons beside items in the question list to let learners see how they're progressing. Icons will display when learners submit their answers—either after each question if submitting one question at a time, or at the end of the quiz if submitting all at once. (Learn more about answer submission methods.)

  1. Click the Additional Options button (the gear icon) below the question list.
  2. When the Additional Options window appears, mark the box to Display correct/incorrect icons.
  3. Click OK.

Changing the Name of the Question List

Want to change the title of the question list? Easy. Just edit the name in your player text labels. If you need help editing text labels, see this user guide.

Saving Player Changes

When you click OK to close the Player Properties window, Quizmaker saves your player customizations in your project file.

If you'd like to use the same customizations in other projects, click Current Player on the ribbon and choose Save. Enter a name for your custom player if you're prompted and click OK.

To learn more about the Current Player options, see this user guide.
