Allow user to be able to rewind back on a slide, but not forward, until the whole slide has played

Is there a way to allow the user to be able to rewind back on a slide, but not forward, until the whole slide has played?

If there isn't, this would be the most beneficial feature to be added for our company! We have so much feedback from trainee asking to be able to rewind (they are not allowed to fast forward until it's played once, as the courses are legislative).

  • Hi Lisa,

    Happy to help!

There isn't a way to restrict the seekbar so that it can will only rewind the timeline, but one workaround that you can do is to enable the conditional seekbar for your course. With this option enabled, the seekbar is locked the first time learners view the slide, but will have full access to the seekbar as soon as they complete it. You can read more about this here:

I'll also let other members chime in to see if any of them have Javascript or CSS solutions that they can share to help you out!

    Hi Joe

Thanks for coming back to me. Yes, the "Allow drag after completion" is what I use for all courses/modules currently. I'd be excited to see if there is a JavaScript or CSS solution!

    Thanks again : )

Chiming in on this thread - our organization also uses the conditional seekbar for compliance purposes. However, this can create a frustrating user experience and potential accessibility problems for any learner who needs to rewind slightly after missing content (due to workplace distractions, visual or auditory processing delays, etc.) and has to wait until the slide is complete to go back, find where they were in the slide, and then review what they missed. Is there any movement towards adding this feature?

  • I agree! It is frustrating to my learners as well. I wish there was a solution.

    Hi Lisa,

If you're looking for a workaround in the meantime, our team uses triggers and a button to create a "jump 10 seconds back" button. Unfortunately this button has to live on the slide rather than in the player, but when learners are watching long videos it's worth it to let them be able to rewind a little rather than have to wait for the whole video to finish first. It functions in the same way as the Netflix 10s back button.

This is what the trigger looks like:

This is so smart! Would you mind posting a screenshot of what this looks like on the slide? Just curious how it appears to the learner.

Hi Jackie, since the trigger can only be attached to buttons on the slide, it can look like any other button that you would choose to put on your slide. We designed a button that looks similar to this one in the image attached and we place it in the safe area of our course where content doesn't go.
