Articulate without internet

Feb 05, 2018

Hello everyone,

My company is looking for an e-learning platform so we can use it in Africa. The problem is : in Africa the Wifi and Internet in general is really bad, I would like to know if it's possible to use "Articulate 360" like an "offline e-learning". I know it's possible to use it for 99 days without any internet, but I would like to know if it's possible to keep the results of the students and then send them when internet is up.

For example, if a student is using our e-learning based on Articulate 360, he is doing the lesson and tests without any internet, his test results are kept and then sent when internet is back.

I also would like to know if it's possible for our users to log with a personnal ID and a password, so they can have a profile (for each one of them) and so I can check their results on tests. I know you can check the results of the users for the "team" version of Articulate, but I dont know if it's possible for the "solo" version.

Thanks for the help you can provide to me and have a good day,

Jules

I would suggest you solve the "Internet" challenge first, by looking at options for more localized internet using small microcomputers like the Raspberry Pi to create small internet "bubbles" at the building level. Once this part is solved I would suggest a better authoring platform like Moodle, which is an LMS. I have helped many international non profit set up this type of solution for modest budgets. The learning portion is relatively easy once the hardware and networking piece is solved

Hi Jules,

Are you looking for the authors to have access to Articulate 360 without internet, or for the learners?

For authors:

Articulate 360 relies heavily on internet connectivity. That being said, you can use Storyline 360, Studio 360, Replay 360, and Peek offline.

Initially, you must be online to sign into the Articulate 360 desktop app, which lets you install and use the desktop-authoring apps—Storyline, Studio, Replay, and Peek. Thereafter, you can use them offline up to 99 days at a time (or 30 days for free trials).

If you're offline longer than 99 consecutive days, the apps will stop working. To re-enable them, simply connect to the internet and sign into Articulate 360.

As long as you're online, you can use the desktop-authoring apps without interruption. If you go offline (for example, when you're traveling), the 99-day clock begins, allowing you to use them offline. The 99-day clock resets each time you connect to the internet and sign into Articulate 360.

Rise, Articulate Review, Content Library, and Articulate Live require an active internet connection.

For learners:

How they access the content will depend on what authoring tool you used, and the export option you looked at. For example, with Storyline you could export for CD/local source and then your learners would be able to play that back on their laptops regardless of internet connection.

Articulate 360 is not built with a site to track users progress throughout a course, and most users upload their published/exported content to a  Learning Management System (LMS) to hold all the tracking and reporting data. As for which ones may work offline, I hope that folks in the community can share their experiences on that with you!

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for the help you provided.

I am looking for the learners to have access to Articulate without internet, I mean the course without internet.

As you said, I think I need to find a LMS that can work "offline", once the user is logged there is no need of internet and his results are sent back when internet is up again. Working on an e-learning (with the ability to track the results) is really a challenge. So if anyone got an idea about a LMS, I'll appreciate!

Hi All

I have been considering this very question for a mixed cohort of students who can, may, have access to internet at home but their work site (generally mining camps) internet is limited. Many like to be able to download the reading resource and assessments for when offline. Unsure whether to stay with Rise or consider Storyline. Advice, suggestion greatly received! Oh yeah, currently all done using bland word documents!

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes, Colin!

You can download Rise 360 courses for offline viewing. Here's the article with those details. Lauren's post about publishing a Storyline course to CD is what we still recommend for viewers without the internet.

I hope this helps!
