Auto Save Auto Save Auto Save!!!!

Sep 11, 2013

I have submitted this as a feature request over 8 months ago. Can you please update the software with an autosave feature. Your product often crashes without an explanation (no way to figure out why) and I am left with my jaw hanging as sometimes I "get into" my work and forget to save for 10 - 15 minutes...that can be lots of work.

So....please please please...for the love of all things reliable, please include an update...like now...with an autosave feature in it.

Thanks.

Hello, Mark!

Although there isn't an auto-save option in Storyline at this time, there is a built-in auto-recovery feature. It can be accessed and enabled in the Storyline Options menu.

If we add this to a future update, we promise to update this conversation. In the meantime, feel free to share any additional thoughts through a Feature Request or right here!

I can't believe this thread started 7 years ago and there is still no auto save option. I don't think I have a single software program that doesn't have one or at least an effective means of auto-recovery. I spent 2 hours adding text to speech when the program gave me the big red x on all of my slides with no option for auto recovery, even though it is set to ten minutes.

This function is long overdue.

Hello Steve,

Storyline 360 does have an auto-recovery feature. Storyline 360 will automatically save a copy of your project at the specified interval (after you’ve saved it at least once). The default interval is every 10 minutes, but you can enter any whole number between 1 and 120. If Storyline closes unexpectedly, you’ll be prompted to recover your project the next time you open it.

If you saved it at least once, there may still be a working version of your project in your temp files. Here's how to check:

  1. Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline
  2. Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.
  3. Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.
  4. Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.

As I sit here with a frozen Storyline, about two and a half hours of work in the balance, and no way to save or know if it's going to crash (or how long it will stand still) - I too would like to request an autosave feature. This is standard. How is it 2023 and on a piece of design software this hasn't been implemented?

Respectfully frustrated,
