I have a course that is using the Exit button on the Modern Player to exit the course. The button works fine when previewing the course but is not working when I publish to either the Web or Articulate Review.
The exit button isn't working in Classic or Modern. I is not working when I test it in our LMS system either. How do we fix this? When I select the Exit button it just moves to the next slide--oh so wrong! And I would love to see what Leslie posted but I can't, I can't see it -- it is way too small to be of any use. Sorry, but frustration leads me to being easily annoyed.
When I looked at this when it was not working the Action was jump to next slide

The Exit button should work in the Storyline 360 Modern Player, even if the project is hosted on a web server.
Here's a sample course with the Exit button enabled -- does the browser tab close when you click that button?
I am having issues with the exit course trigger too. It seems to be a browser issue, I have tried the link to the sample course above and it didn't work when I was using Firefox. This is happening with the course I have published too. It sometime works in Chrome and other times not, it isn;t working in firefox and works in Edge and IE.
it is utterly amazing how much time users spend trying to get simple things to work right in modules and this software. I am having the same issue with an exit button not working while trying to get a module ready for assignment to a client
I'm so sorry you're also running into this; I can understand the frustration when you hit a roadblock like this, especially with a deadline!
I want to help get this resolved quickly, so from here, I'd like to enlist our support engineers to help troubleshoot and get to the bottom of this. As soon as my team reviews your file, we'll reach out with the next step!
Is this something to do with a recent update to Chrome and possibly other browsers? I have courses that were published years ago that have exit course triggers. They worked fine until recently. I'm not keen on changing files that have years of users' results against them.
We don't see this bug in Storyline 360 (Build 3.51.24979.0), so it might be an issue within Chrome or other browsers. Is your course located in an LMS environment or web server? If it's in an LMS, I'd recommend troubleshooting your LMS with SCORM cloud to see if the behavior is different. If the Exit button works in SCORM cloud, then we'd recommend connecting with your LMS admin.
Hi Lauren. Am I correct in saying that with SCORM Cloud there's no option to launch a course in a new browser tab and you can only launch a course in a new window?
We had thought a solution would be removing the non working exit button and now we have assigned out the course to hundreds of staff.... and multiple people taking the training are not having it recorded that LMS is tracking they completed the course. Is an exit button necessary to cause LMS to record that the user has taken a course?
Thanks for the follow-up! An "exit course" button isn't necessary for recording the completion of a course. As long as you have one of the tracking options set, the course will report it when that option is completed.
You can even choose multiple criteria, and the first one completed will be reported.
An exit course button shouldn't affect this as long as the tracking options are triggered first (for example, a Submit Results trigger occurring before the Exit course trigger).
It sounds like multiple users are running into issues having the course reported, so I recommend sharing your file with our support team to take a closer look and help troubleshoot!

The exit button is designed for an LMS, it may close the window if opened as a separate window on the web, it will not do anything in review
Well, I guess we won't use this method then. We can't release something to our LMS if we can't prove that it works during review & approval.
Thanks for your quick reply.
Hi Geoff!
The Exit button should work in the Storyline 360 Modern Player, even if the project is hosted on a web server.

Hi Alyssa,
Thanks for your response. We'll try getting approval using courses published on a web server.
Alyssa, does this mean that the Exit button will not work on the classic player when hosted on a web server?
Hi Pano,
It should work in the Classic Player as well. Check out my example here.

Hey GG,
Thanks for reaching out and letting us know that you're experiencing difficulty with your Exit Course button as well.
My demo above was a quick gif displaying that my Exit Course button worked with the Classic Player for Pano above.
I'd be happy to take a look and help you out with that. Would you be able to share your .story file?
I figured it out.
In the Player check mark the Exit link under Player Tabs.

Then highlight by clicking on the Exit

And then select the Edit icon

This opens the Trigger Wizard for the Exit button—set the Action to Exit course

When I looked at this when it was not working the Action was jump to next slide

Good find Glenda. Thanks for popping in to share that update.
Your description is spot on, even though I cannot see the images you are sharing.
It looks like you're replying via e-mail and that does a couple of things:

Hello Angela,
I just responded to a similar conversation here if you'd like to keep the conversation going in one location :)
Was this ever resolved? Like the above post, in Chrome sometimes it closes sometimes it does not. Using modern in Storyline 360.
