Hover, Down, and Visited States Not Working

Apr 30, 2022

I've been building a complex course, and throughout it, there are many instances of rectangles that I use as buttons. When I started, everything worked fine. Then a few weeks in, when the states started misbehaving, I created custom states. Those worked for a week or two, and then I noticed that they were beginning to fail little by little. I'm attaching a .story file of one of my dozens of iterations of attempts to get the states to work correctly. I've cycled through the built-in states, custom states, a combination of the two, re-creating the buttons, using the format painter, not using the format painter, and rebuilding a slide from scratch. Every solution I try either doesn't work or, at absolute best, works for a few weeks and then inexplicably reverts to what it's doing now. The project is due to the client in a little over a month, but beta versions are due ASAP. I've already spent a lot of time attempting to fix these states, but the problem pervades multiple slides across multiple .story files for this project. How can I resolve this inconsistency once and for all?

Thanks Maria! I appreciate the info.

I must have made a mistake in the attaching process, but I think I've successfully added it now.

  • I'm working directly from a local hard drive.
  • That's a great new troubleshooting technique to add to my arsenal. I don't want to jinx it, but at first glance, doing this and then setting everything back to built-in states might have solved the bulk of my issues! How often do you recommend re-installing?

I'm still struggling with an issue with states. It's much less significant, but it is still puzzling all the same. The attachment describes the expectations vs. outcomes. Thanks for the help!

Hi, Robbie.

Thank you for sharing your .story file!

We have a bug reported where changing the state of an object from normal to a different state, when you hover your mouse over the object, the font settings of the different state is followed instead of the (default) font settings of the hover state.

The workaround is to change the font color on the hover button, then change it back. I tested it on your file, and it seems to work:

I've connected this discussion to the bug report, and I'll be sure to come back to update you when I have some news.
