PPT Taking FOREVER to upload to Storyline

Apr 08, 2021

Hello,

I am trying to upload a powerpoint to Storyline 360. Is it just me, or does this take forever and a day to do?

Is there anyway to trouble shoot?

Hello, Kampgrounds.

Thank you for reaching out!

The time it takes to import a Powerpoint file into Storyline will depend on how large the file size is and the number of slides, images, animations, and other media it contains. Is it slow only for a specific file, or are you experiencing this behavior every time you try to import a Powerpoint file?

Let's try to narrow down the issue:

  • Are you working from a local hard drive? Working on a network drive can cause erratic behavior.
  • Which version of Powerpoint are you using?
  • Have you attempted a repair of Storyline 360? Here are the instructions.

If the repair doesn't solve your issue, or if it's happening with a specific file, I'd recommend opening a support case with our engineers. You'll be able to upload your .ppt file so we can take a deeper look at what's going on.

I never use the PowerPoint import, but tried out of curiosity after reading this post. It indeed seems to be very slow. I imported a 9 slide PPT with around 22MB. The first time I stopped after 15 minutes and on the second try Storyline crashed. See screenshot below:

Maybe there is some kind of bug going on.

Best,
Dominik

Hello Mina,

Thank you for sharing your experience with Storyline's import from PowerPoint feature! I tried importing the attached PowerPoint presentation with five slides and text-only, similar to your setup, and got the attached imported Storyline project in under a minute. Here's a quick Peek recording of my tests.

How long did the import take on your end? If it takes a lot of time, applying these steps can rule out a possible Storyline installation issue. If the issue persists, you likely need to repair Microsoft Office, especially if you have more than one version of PowerPoint installed. Here's how:

  1. In Windows, right-click the Start button and select Apps and Features.
  2. Depending on your version, select Microsoft Office or Microsoft 365 in the list of programs and click Modify.
  3. When the installer launches, select the option to Repair and follow the prompts.
  4. After the repair process, reboot your computer and test your software again.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have additional questions.

Hi Dominik,

I appreciate you testing Storyline's import from PowerPoint feature! Your case may be different from what Mina encountered, as you ran into an error message. I tried importing a five-slide presentation with no issue. Please try applying the steps in the article below and see if it will help you import the presentation successfully.

If the issue persists, feel free to open a support case with our team and share the affected PowerPoint file so we can help find out what happened. We'll reach out soon after we hear from you.
