Slider is difficult to move
Hi,
I created a presentation using Storyline 360. My slider allows you to navigate to the next or previous slide. My issue is that it's very difficult to move the slider. You have to click, move the slider, and then release to go to the next or previous slide. Do you know why I'm having this issue? It creates for a bad experience.
Also, is there a way to simply drag the slider to any step and not have to go in sequential order?
Thanks,
Justin

Hey Justin,
Try playing with the number of steps in your slide, like here:
This should get it moving smoothly, and you can use exact values or value ranges in your triggers, depending on what you want to achieve.
Not sure what you mean by "Also, is there a way to simply drag the slider to any step and not have to go in sequential order?" Do you mean the starting point of the slider? The slider is basically a line, so not sure how you can get from 0 to 100 without going sequentially...

Try changing it to Step: .01 for a smoother feel to the slider. I found that out in a video and was surprised at what a difference it made.

Thank you. Right now, my slider on all slides is set like shown in the attachment. I have 25 slides and each slide moves forward or backwards at .5 intervals (shown in the second image).

If you don't want to drag then release, try updating when slider moves, not when it is released. If your slider has only 2 steps, it has to be drug all the way to be on a new number. Doing what Veronica and Maura suggest means you don't have to move it as far for it to take effect. If you write the conditions for the jump trigger carefully, you'll be set..

Thank you. Right now my slider is set to update "while slider is dragged." The other option is "when learner releases."

Why not when the variable changes? This Storyline training video has some great tips despite being about Parallax Sliders.

It's really hard for the learner to hit 1 or 7 exactly. Try <= 6.5 and >= 7.0

Thank you for that suggestion. I'm working on it, but struggling with getting everything set up right.

Thank you. I made the updates to all my slides. However, it's still sticky. Could this issue be with how my slider is formatted? I have this same start, initial, end, and step information on all my slides? Is that the problem?

I'm not sure what you mean by sticky. You should know what happens if you use a slider like this to change slides. When you move from Slide 1 to Slide 2, Slide 2 has an entirely different slider. So the
Slider on Slide 1, which you were moving is no longer attached to your cursor. The cursor is above a different slider (the one on Slide 2) and has to be clicked again to establish connection with it.Check out the attached sample for the method I would use if I were doing it.

thank you.
For a little background on my usage of "sticky" when describing the slider. I haven't created a ton of sliders as you might have been able to tell. I did create a version a while back, but no longer have the file. I have that file added to one of my Rise courses. That slider moves very easily. By this I mean that I can click and move to any point and the slider goes there. WIth the file I am working on, I have to click, move, release, click, move, release, etc. I have it set up to "while slider is dragged" which you would think would prevent this issue. I can't seem to figure it out.

Change the Step: to 0.01, it makes the slider work more smoothly.

I updated all of my steps to be .01 on every slide. However, not it's not flowing to the previous or next slide like it did before. Do I have to change anything else?

I just looked at the project example that Walt Hamilton put together for you. If you're only using a slider for navigation instead of PREV/NEXT buttons then he has given you a very elegant solution by placing everything on the master slide.
Maybe you should ignore my comment about the changing the value of "Step" and go with his solution.

If you are using a slider to navigate, it will be sticky. For an explanation of why, see this discussion: https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/slider-is-difficult-to-move#reply-790985
