After I import a translation into a project, the Registered Trade Mark characters and superscript numbers are now exactly the same size as the rest of the font and are no longer superscript. The usual keyboard shortcuts do not work. What can be done about this? What trick is there?

The Superscript & Subscript options are in the Font dialog box. Open that by clicking the little button in the lower right of the Font ribbon:
