URL

Apr 28, 2013

Hi,

In one of my storyline slides, I have a button with a trigger to jump into a URL when the user clicks on it. this URL should take the user to a website(my company elearning website) where he can access an elearning lesson. the lesson openes in a new browser which is great. but the problem is when the lesson is finished it takes me out of the storyline course while it is not the last slide in it.

Please advise

Hi Peter,

thanks for your attempt to help.

Unfortunately, you will not be able to access any of the URLs as they are  dedicated for Aramco users and can not be accessed from out.

The problem is, I have a slide in the middle of a storyline course that have four buttons each one direct the user to an elearning lesson located at Aramco elearning website. the links are working fine directing the users to the correct lesson and the user is supposed to return back to complete the storyline course after this lesson is finished, either to check other lessons by clicking on any other button or to click on the next button to move to the next slide. But in reality this does not happen, as  Once the lesson is finished, the whole storyline course will be ended. is it something that need to be changed in the settings to allow the user to close the lesson (in Aramco website) without ending the storyline course?

Hope this is clear

Thanks for the information, Rana. That doesn't sound quite right to me, especially if you have the Aramco link opening in a new window. When you close that window, I don't think it should end your Storyline course.

We'd love to be able to take a look, and we wouldn't necessarily need access to your Aramco site - the .story source file would help us understand how you've configured the course and its settings. Do you think you could send that over to us so we can help troubleshoot this thing?

Thanks!

Hi Stephanie!

This discussion is a bit older, so let's start fresh! Tell me more about what's going on in your file. These key details would be helpful, too!

  • What version of Storyline are you using? (Help >> About Storyline)
  • Is the published output hosted on a web server or a learning management system (LMS)?
  • What exactly happens when the learner clicks the URL?

Hi! Thank you for your quick reply!

- Storyline 360 v.3.25.18088.0

- LMS

- When the learner clicks on the URL - it takes them to the webpage (in a new winder per the browser settings), but it kicks them out of the training and the user has to go back to the LMS to restart the course all over again. Therefore, they'd never be able to complete the course. I tried setting the browser settings to open up in the SAME window as well (in hopes they may be able to click "Back" to the training), but that will not open up the URL at all AND they are kicked out of the training.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for those details, Stephanie. I'd like to test this in another LMS environment to see if the same problem happens there.

Would you be willing to share that particular slide with me? You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done having a look. I'll be standing by!
