Freelance Heroes - Book Selections, Recommendations and Reviews

Nov 01, 2012

Thought this might make an interesting topic/thread/resource - for new and experienced freelance alike.

I'll start off with:

Brilliant Freelancer (Discover the Power of your own success) - Leif Kendall

(Pearson Education Limited 2011 - ISBN 978-0-273-74463-4)

Bought this while on vacation this week, and do not regret one penny

6 parts to the book

**NOTE - written from a UK perspective, but totally "international" concepts.

Part 1 - Freelance essentials (are you ready, make a smooth transition, how to find first jobs and becoming a company).

Part2 - Finding the most profitable and manageable work, (take your ass to market, find work fast, networking, websites, blogs, how to sell and getting more work than you can handle).

Part 3 - Managing your clients before they manage you, (managing clients, difficult clients, the client's side of the story)

Part 4 - Motivate yourself and get stuff done, (the art of motivation, a productive place to work, healthy body and mind, healthy computers)

Part 5 - Protect Yourself - finances, cash flow, credit control and contracts, (financial records, cash flow and the need for credit control, creating a contract)

Part 6 - Next stag, and beyond!, (Partnerships, products and businesses).

Will not go into much more detail beyond this, however, learned a lot, validated a lot, and gave me a lot to think about. The book is relatively inexpensive, so would recommend it to anyone wanting to give freelancing "a go".
