Anyway to recover corrupted files?
I was on my way to a meeting, saved and shutdown. When I opened back up at my meeting, the file said, "either corrupt or created in an earlier version of storyline. Any ideas on how I can open. My last back up was 3 days ago, and I'm losing a ton of work if I can't open this somehow.

Following instructions from a different post, I opened my .story file in notepad and added the requested code. Following that, I got a notice that my file was corrupted. I went into AppData and have no backup saved. I have deleted the code, but it still says that it is corrupt. please assist.

Hello, my file just got corrupted after importing several screen recording files into my main file. I tried to go to the appdata and there is no temp file for my project. Do you know if importing screen recording files have causes this issue in the past? I'm not sure how to proceed if that continues to happen.

You did the right thing by checking your temp files, and I'm very sorry for the trouble.
While it's tough to track down the source of corruption, we have these best practices to help mitigate the risk. Saving to a local C: drive and closing Storyline daily are two easy ways to protect your files.

Hi there,
I've got the 'file is corrupt or invalid and cannot be opened' notice. This is after saving before lunch and then trying to continue at 1pm. Of course it's a project I'm a day away from finishing after months of work.
I've tried finding a tmp file, no such luck. I've emailed support with the file itself attached but no reply so far.
Is there a way to recover this and avoid me having to redo 6 months of work?

Do you have a backup? Are you saving on sharepoint or dropbox so you can restore a previous version?

No, I don't have a backup unfortunately. I usually only do that when I make 2 or more alternatives for the client to choose from. I realize now I should probably backup every other save as this wouldn't be such a problem.

Windows can often restore a version, beyond that I think it is a rebuild.
I know this won’t help you, but it might save someone else from learning as hard a way as I did. “Would I be upset if my computer chose tonight to lose my work?” The answer to that is the answer to “should I backup right now?” Especially if you are using SL.
