Auto-generate closed captions does not work in my Storyline 360. However, it works for my colleague
As the title says, this is a unique problem. The CC generation worked for me till yesterday. Now it does not. My colleague does not have this issue.
I have restarted my laptop, the issue still persists.
Has anybody else encountered this? Any workaround that I could try?

Sounds frustrating. Do the other AI features in Storyline work as expected?

Yes it is :( Other AI features work fine, just not the CCs
Hello SiddhiAdhav-261,
I’m glad to see Ron has already jumped in with a follow-up question.
Just to add, if you’re already working from your local drive, you might also try repairing your Storyline 360 installation. That often resolves unexpected behavior like this: How to Fix Unexpected or Erratic Behavior in Storyline 360
If the issue continues, you’re welcome to connect with us privately in a support case so we can take a closer look and provide more targeted help.
Hope you’re back on track soon!

Hello, did you ever find a solution or workaround to this? I am having the same thing happen now.
Hi MaryOConnell-21,
Good question! In Siddhi’s case, our Support team worked with her directly, and the issue was resolved on a later attempt. No specific bug was identified. Closed caption generation began working again, and the most likely cause was a temporary hiccup or project size affecting processing time.
A couple of tips that helped in her case:
- Larger media files can make CC generation take longer than expected.
- Be sure you’re working from your local hard drive, not a network or USB location: Create, Edit, and Publish on Your Local Hard Drive.
If the issue continues on your end, please feel free to open a support case. And if you’re comfortable sharing your Storyline file, our team can take a closer look.

Well, this issue has been challenging. Especially since I have taken over a project from a colleague.
Here are my findings, only after I have reinstalled Storyline, and still had the same issue of no AI generation of closed captions.
- Make sure there are no symbols in your MP3 file name.
- If there are any symbols, export the MP3 audio file and rename it with no symbols. I would also avoid spaces. I also suspect a super-long filename was stopping generation. For example, I also use 11labs, which names the file a ridiculous length. Here is an example:
ElevenLabs_2026-03-19T22_20_28_Voice_Character name_ivc_sp100_s50_sb75_se0_b_m2.mp3. The name is autogenerated and autodownloaded to downloads from 11labs. (Yes, my settings require all downloads to ask me where I want the file...but 11labs, for some reason, does not ask. I guess this is my next sleuthing mission.)
- Make sure your auto-generation on import is checked.
- Reimport the audio file, and your closed captions will generate.
Good luck, e-learning warriors!
