Braille display compatibility

Is Storyline 3 output at all compatible with braille display devices? The verbiage that JAWS is the only supported screen reader, with no information about braille displays, seems to imply it is not.

  • Hi Sally,

I saw you also reached out to our Support team (great idea!) and worked through a couple of accessibility questions with Renz. I wanted to share the details on braille that he provided you via email here for others in the community:

We haven't tested braille displays and can't say for sure if they work with Storyline courses. Since braille displays rely on alt text and meta languages, which are supported by Storyline, your e-learning courses might already work with braille displays. If you have braille users, we'd love to hear about their experiences with Storyline courses. We're working on accessibility enhancements for Storyline and will commit to testing braille support as part of that project. We're excited about these changes, and we think you're going to love them too! I can't share the details yet, but I'll be sure to email you as soon as the features are ready.

Please let Renz or I know if you need anything else!

Hello Ashley! Any chance that one of the updates will allow a developer to create a program where a learner can type braille using 6 key entry?

  • Hello there, Destiny!

We're committed to making Storyline courses accessible to developers and learners with a wide range of abilities and needs. I'd love to champion this enhancement and have shared it as a Feature Request with the right team.

We'll let you know if we add this to a future update, and you can read more about our efforts in this area here!

  • Of course, Destiny. Happy to help!

By the way, it looks like you may have replied by email where your contact information came through to the public forum. Feel free to edit your reply here

  • Do we have an update on this? Have learners specifically requesting, as they have a better experience with a braille reader over a text reader like JAWS.
