Changing numbering in story view
Hello,
Is it possible to change the numbering of the slides in Articulate Storyline 1? We've moved around the content and the numbering of the slides now doesn't match the content.
Eg 4.2 in story view refers to Module 1.2 in terms of content.
Thank you very much for your help
Nicola

Hello, Eydie!
I appreciate you sharing all of that valuable insight. It helps us understand the need for such a feature with how it would solve the pain points you're currently facing (especially when there are a handful of slides!).
I shared this discussion with the right team and if we add this feature to Storyline in the future, we promise to share the news!
In the meantime, you mentioned slides are getting reordered and programmed incorrectly, and that worries me.
Would you be willing to share an affected .story file with our Support Engineers to help us pinpoint where the issue is stemming? It'll help us get a clear picture of what's going on and we'll delete it after troubleshooting.

Completely agree with the above comments. Yes, the order does not matter to the learner. We know this already, have explicitly said so, and described what we need-being able to see scene numbers in a logical order for development. Cutting and re-pasting scenes as described in the links above is all well and good when you have only a handful of scenes.
When you have branched sequences with many scenes, cutting and pasting each to get them reordered is just as much a PITA. In trying to re-frame the feature request: We need to be able to reorder the scenes number sequence in much the same way that can be done with slides within a single scene.

Hi Lauren,
Sorry didn't see your post.
The Menu isn't a problem as you can rename things in that at least. The problem comes in Storyview and also when publishing to Word.
As I showed in my post above the numbering is not logical at all and this not only affects the development in Storyline but the Publishing of word files. We use word files of the storyline lesson to give to our SMEs to mark up. But the word file chapters are in order of numbers, i.e. 1, 2, 2.1, 3, 3.1 etc and of course this doesn't work if your story view is like mine above. So after every word publish I have to go in and manually rearange things using the navigation pane.
This is a lot of extra work when you have 30+ modules and multiple reviews of them!!! This needs to be a priority as it just adds so much time to development!!!
I think I am going to do as in another thread and post once a week until this is fixed, so it keeps on the first page.

What I would like is the ability to choose a STARTING number for the a scene other than 1 (like choosing a starting number other than 1 for the start of an ordered list.)
The problem we keep running into is that we have, say, 7 modules in a series. Each module is its own storyline file, because we need to track them by module in our LMS (someone might only be assigned modules 1-4 and 7, for example). The client wants the numbers on the slides (so they can tell someone to "go to slide 14" in a module and we're all on the same page.) But, it's very confusing to see "1 Module 4 1.1 Introduction 1.2 Objectives...." etc. The client, reasonably, wants these numbers to be 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, and so on. However, this seems to be impossible unless we turn off autonumbering altogether and manually number our slides. This is VERRRRY irritating though because when a slide does need to be deleted or reordered at any point in the development cycle, you need to manually go and renumber all of the slides. So, an option where you get to pick WHAT number the scene is called would be very very appreciated. Hi Joshua!
I appreciate you sharing your input! As others have mentioned, we have a feature request for this exact scenario. This isn't an addition we've added yet but we'll keep the discussion updated when we do!

Well I thought I would post again to keep this alive.
This request was posted 5 YEARS ago and still nothing has been done. As with other requests that are a fundamental necessity of L&D design software it doesn't seem to be a priority for Storyline to implement this.
After reading other threads where much needed features are not added to Storyline even after years of it being requested I am loosing faith in Storyline. At this rate I will be looking else where for my software needs. VERY dissapointed.

Hi there,
I am having the same issue. I use Storyline 360 and need to remove the numbering (or change it) that is automatically displayed on the Menu side as it doesn't fit the module's content. For example, the Introduction scene/slides are numbered 1, 1.1, 1.2 and then Module 1 is numbered on the menu as 2, 2.1, 2.2 etc. How can I remove the numbering for Introduction scene and slides keeping just the name, while having Module 1 scene/slides actually numbered as 1, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc. instead? Thanks Stef
Hi Stefaniada!
In Storyline 360, you have the choice to remove all of the Slide Numbers in the Menu. There isn't currently an option to renumber the menu.
If removing the slide numbers works for your course, here's how to only show the Slide Title in the Menu. Let me know if you have additional questions!

Hi I was searching for this type of issue and realise this is old, but wondering what the latest is on this and where I can get a tutorial to get me going on the best way to do slide numbering in articulate 360 storyline.
