customise color of subtitle

Hi everyone,

someone can tell me the way for customising the font color of the subtitle and the background color of the subtitle zone ?

Thanks a lot,

Frédéric

    Hi Frédéric,

I looked around for this as well, and the only relevant information I can find is this:

Storyline 360 supports bold, italic, and underline formatting in caption files as well as voice tags to indicate which person is speaking. All other formatting tags, such as font and font color, will be ignored. (Use the caption font setting in your player properties to specify which font should be used for your closed captions.)

Perhaps the thinking is that for accessibility reasons (this may even be a requirement), the player must have control of the formatting of captions/subtitles so that they can be adjusted based on the need (high contrast, non-red/green, extra kerning, etc).

I'll be following along to see if there is a method or workaround.

    Hi William,

Frédéric's question is now three years old. Is there a solution in the meantime?

    My question is:
Is it possible to change the background color for subtitles? If yes how?
Or alternatively, is it possible to make the background of the subtitles more transparent?

    Thanks in advance

    Ulrich

      Greetings Ulrich!

We don't currently have a way to customize the background of subtitles. I understand this would be beneficial, so I've added your comments to our current feature request. I don't have an exact timeline to share as to when we will ship this feature in Storyline 360, but I'll update this discussion when I have more information.

Thank you for taking the time to share this with us!

  • Hi Lauren,

Is there any  good news about customization of bg of closed caption?

    thx for your helps.

  • Hi Mustafa,

Customizing the background of subtitles is a feature request that we are still tracking. Your voice has been added to that request. This discussion will be updated as soon as we have some new information.

    Thanks for reaching out!

  • Hello Everyone!

I'm happy to share that we have released Storyline 360 version 86 (Build 3.86.32028.0).

Included in this release is a new feature where you can customize the foreground and background colors of closed captions to complement your course design and maintain contrast accessibility.

All you need to do is update Storyline 360 in your Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.

Please let us know if you have any questions by reaching out to our Support Engineers directly.

    Have a great day!

    Hi Luciana,

Thank you for sharing this update!

Should the colors used in closed captions also export to MP4 files?

I attempted to change the color of my closed captions to both black with a white background, and white with a black background, but I only see that white text appears on my MP4 files, with no background color to set apart the caption from the white slide.

    Thank you!

    Lily

      Hi, Lily!

Thanks for following up on this. I was able to replicate this behavior in the most recent version of Storyline, and it is in fact the expected behavior.

We've created a feature request for the ability to customize the color of closed captions when published to MP4, and we'll be sure to update you if we have news to share!
