Discussion boards in Rise
Hi there
I was wondering is there a way to have a group discussion board in rise where students can comment and post?
Thanks!
Suzie
Jean,
I don't know enough about Padlet to say - perhaps they have a way to segment a discussion into sections? Keep us posted what you decide - I'm sure that idea may help others here in the E-Learning Heroes community!

This is great, thank you!
Hi Jay,
It's not a feature I've seen a lot of other requests for since most of the folks here in ELH seem able to use another tool such as Padlet. Have you looked at other options that you could embed into Rise, and track on those sites?
Our team is always curious to hear new ideas and how they'd help your course design, could you share a bit more with us here or through a feature request?
Hello JR!
I didn't do anything special when I embedded that Padlet into Rise 360. I simply used the formula
<iframe src="URL"></iframe>
, and replacedURL
with the link for the Padlet. You can adjust the size of the iFrame window by hovering over the block and clicking Edit. Under the Settings tab, click the dropdown under Embed Width.
If you're still having trouble, would you mind sharing the link to your Padlet with me?

Alyssa you seem to be an expert here. This is my first day in the community and I'm seeking the latest recommendations on how to provide a course with an interactive discussion feature embedded into a Rise content course. Can you tell me what your latest and greatest or best implementation method is for this desired functionality?
Additionally while I am seeking input, can you also share the best proven method for surveying students in Rise?
Thank you!

When you went to padlet what layout did you use to get the look in your rise course?

I think Articulate needs its own chat something, maybe something like the discussion forum in Coursera, or maybe something like how Slack operates. Here's why. 1) it signals that this is more like a real world learning experience, where you interact with instructor and other learners. 2) it gives me as a developer or instructor better information about the learner experience, which helps with revisions or new offerings. Padlet might meet a lot of this need. However, Padlet is 3rd party. It adds a risk of exposure that might make it difficult to use by an educational institution (which I work for) due to risk of violation of FERPA. How do I know if use of Padlet will be fully secure? I trust Articulate, but do i trust Padlet? I think one could argue that an Articulate controlled discussion forum type function might rank pretty high in terms of value for a lot of users, and particularly those affiliated with educational institutions. The lack of that might drive users to slighly heavier LMSs, like Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard Ultra, etc.

Does rise.com integrate with Slack? Social learning is so important…I too hope to see discussion added in rise.com very soon!
