Embedding videos from URL

Hi All,

I'm creating a course that will include a lot of video that will be hosted externally. I know that Storyline allows you to add triggers to launch URLs but they always seem to launch in a new window. What I need to be able to do is to make the URLs load inside the Storyline course.

Is this possible? Is there a setting I've missed?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you

Harri

  • Hi, Joan.

    Thank you for reaching out!

When you embed a video (or web object), it is dependent on the location it's pointed to. If the URL changes, then the link will no longer work in the Storyline published content.

    I hope this helps!

Yes, you can embed a video directly into Storyline using the Insert >> Video from File or Insert >> Video from Website options. Here is some info on these options. The demo deals with YouTube videos but the same options apply to any video; all you need is the embed code.

When you embed a youtube video in storyline, would it be dependent to the URL link? In other words will the video stop working if that URL link or video that was embedded in my Storyline content change in the future?

I have entered a URL video from our agency in a Storyline product.  I want the slide to advance after the video plays but there is no trigger to allow this, is there a work around?

  • Hi Karen,

There is currently no way to track the end of an embedded video in Storyline 360, so we recommend instead to request for a copy of the video file and add the file to your course instead. Once added, you'll be able to use the 'When media completes' trigger event to control the navigation of your slide as soon as a video finishes playing.

Let me know if you have any questions!
