Error importing audio files
Hi,
I wonder if you can help me. I'm trying to import audio files into my Storyline project. I'm able to select the file, but when it tries to load I get the following error message:
An error occurred while importing this file.
<Filename> does not appear to be a supported audio format.
I've not been able to import any audio files (either mp3 or wav) as I recieve this message each time. The audio files and the project are hosted on a local drive.
Does anyone know what's going on here?

I know this post is old but I was having the same issue today. I use a Mac with Parallels. Anyway I tried all the suggestions here and still couldn't get it to work. After doing some troubleshooting and trial and errors I figured out that Storyline does not like subfolders, I had created a folder for my project, then within that folder I had sub-folders for my elements (images, audio, music, documents etc) Anyway, I edited my audio files which were in the "Audio" folder, then I created a sub-folder under "Audio" for my edited files. Before it gets more confusing this was my folder structure: Project/Audio/Edited Audio/. I moved my audio files out of the subfolders and just placed them in the Project folder, and that fixed it! I hope it makes sense to you all.

Victor,
It has been 4 years since you posted this solution and yet you are still helping people! I have been trying to figure this out for 2 days. I'm also on Parallels and putting the audio files in a top level folder solved my problem. THANK YOU!!!!
Good find Victor. I appreciate you popping in to share with the community.

Hi all. I am getting the same error and copying the files to the project folder and imported the clips and still got the same error.
Same error when I try to import clips to Media Library too.
Help, please?

Hi Lauren,
I have solved the problem of importing mp3 audio files into Storyline 360 by deleting the additional files that I was given with the mp3 files... these additional files were copies of the mp3 files but prefixed with <Period><Underscore> and when I deleted them from the Projects folder the mp3 files inserted as expected. I had tried all the other fixes offered here over the years and nothing was working.
Thank you for your message.
I am unsure whether it was because the files were provided to me through MS Teams? But I imagine this could happen even from a flash drive...
I have attached a screen shot of the files provided to me.
Hi Janine and welcome to E-Learning Heroes. 😊
So glad to hear that you were able to get to the bottom of the issue. I appreciate you popping in to share an update.
We do recommend working with local files, typically on your C: Drive.
If you share audio files through MS Teams, does it create multiple copies or different formats? I'm not familiar with that behavior, but I'm making a mental note.

Hello, I am getting this same issue, and have tried all the fixes suggested but to no avail. Has there been any further findings on this?
My audio is exported from PPT - is this a known issue?I am also working in Parallels in a Mac if that is an issues?

Hi Helen,
There were a few things I had to do to get the mp3 files to import:
* Ensure that only mp3 files were copied from source - not additional files with prefixes added as I said above (<Period><Underscore>) - my voice over artist isn't sure why the files ended up existing but deleting them contributed to solution
* Project and Mp3 files had to be in C:\Users\<user>\Documents\My Articulate Projects
* Filenames had to be short (I used no more than 15 characters)
Hope this solves it for you.

Putting it in the My Articulate folder worked! Thank you!

I am getting the error today trying to import .wav and .mp3 files. It worked two weeks ago. I did the current update yesterday. Did something change?
