Gate Bypassing

Some of our people have become aware of some forms of gate bypassing for online coursework.  I know virtually no specifics at this time, other than allegedly one of them is a Chrome plugin that allows people to bypass locked seekbars, and move to the end of the slide so that they can move forward.  I honestly don't know if it affects storyline 360 at all.  We heard about it from an accrediting agency recently, and now it's being discussed as a concern.

Is anyone out there aware of such "gate" bypassing mechanisms or plugins out there, and if so, is it really an issue or something that can be addressed on our end to prevent from occurring?

  • To be honest, the open secret is that anybody with a bit of JavaScript knowledge can mark themselves as completed/passed in a SCORM course on most LMS. I've tested this on a few LMS and found it possible. I know there are some ways to prevent it (LMS side) by preventing people working with the SCORM API directly. I remember some information on a solution from Rustici I think. It would be easy enough to create a browser bookmarklet to do this.
