Image Dimensions in Rise
Hello
I've just started using Rise and I have some questions. Is there place that tells me the image dimensions (ie: Image and Text, Image size for the accordion, etc.). My client thinks the font is too small in the image description, so I was going to overlay it on the image, but it keeps cutting it off and I'll be here all day trying to figure out the image size.
Generally, here's the advice I give for the Rise workshops:
- I try to keep in images at either 1x1 or 16:9. Some blocks like the image grids, display 1x1 but when clicked will open to the full image. 16x9 helps keep it consistent looking.
- All image blocks scale the image except the images with text on them. I consider those decorative images and they will crop as noted above.
- Here's a doc I created with some tips on the blocks and the settings/media they support.
- A blog post that explains how I created the flashcards in a demo so I had text on image.

Tom - I found your tips on the blocks and the settings/media supported super interesting. This solves some questions I've had lately. By any change would you have a more recent version of this doc we could possibly utilise? Thanks so much
Here's a quick help when working with images:
- Create a square PowerPoint slide. Design tab, slide size. 10x10
- Add the image to the slide when using a square image block (grids, flashcard) to the slide.
- Save the slide as an image .png
Of course you can crop the image in other tools, but I usually have PowerPoint open when working with Rise.

The cropping tool helps a lot but in order to address the issue that a lot of folks indicated on this thread I'd love to see a Focal Point tool that allows you to drag the image in the frame to identify what should always be at the center of the image frame.
Something like this:
Hi Irina!
Rise displays images in different sizes and ratios depending on the device you're using, especially in those full-width image blocks. For example, the way an image is cropped on a tablet is completely different than the way it's cropped on a phone.
In other words, there's no ratio rule to follow since the image will be cropped differently depending on the device that's used. That's the beauty of fully-responsive content--it reflows and resizes to fit the device/screen you're using.

Hi Alyssa
What are the dimensions of the divider blocks? I would like to replicate their size for some other assets?
Hi Ben,
Rise 360 will create responsive content, so there isn't one set size as it'll change based on what device you're viewing a course with. Could you share more about what you'd like to set up and we can point you in the right direction?

I would love it if the image on a desktop shoed more than just that small slice. Most of my learners will be using lap tops or desk tops and the image show up large and cut off with text on them.

I am also having trouble with images chopping within the gallery frames. No matter what device or what format (landscape or portrait, the frame chops off part of the image. If I knew two aspect rations (one for landscape and one for portrait), I think I could figure out how to size images so that they look like they fit into the frames.

Hi all,
I did get a better answer yesterday from Support, after I complained on here. :)
The 2-column grid gallery images need to be square. So, I simply added white space to the top and bottom of my landscape images, and voila! They looked fine in all the "device" modes.
This is the kind of tip I hope someone at Articulate collects and puts into a document or video of other helpful workarounds *hint hint*!

I am a very new user to Articulate and just had this situation. I did have to google how to add white space around an image and it worked like a charm. Thank you, Annie!

Okay some of the responses in here don't make sense. You can't just speak of images in 16x9 and 1x1 those are video lingo. What are the dimensions or resolutions that we should be look for in each of the instances. Saying High res doesn't make sense. So when we are using the 2 columns persay. There is the on screen and then zoom image. What are the two dimensions? Reason i'm asking is that yep it is a square but is it 500x500 and then zoom is that simply coded to width parameter? Or is it 1600x1600 and the 2 column is cropping.
I guess my question might not be the specific resolutions, but letting us know how those are coded might help us in understanding what might be cropped and not. EG: the image response of make it a square that makes sense to have the hieght be the total and white on sides. But then if you have 3 column, the images are small and how will the zoom look.
I can go on and on, just asking and trying to save myself time as opposed to testing our every single sizing to see how they react. But if i have to do that just let me know. :-)
Hi there, Doug! We focus more on the aspect ratios than the dimensions because of the potential for that same image to be viewed on many screen sizes.
To keep it simple, use the bigger dimensions! When you zoom in Rise 360, the image will expand either to its original size, or until the browser window is full. When you use those high res images, they'll look great in the lesson and zoomed.
If you're having specific issues with image quality during zoom, however, let us know!

Nope, nope, nope. We all know Rise is responsive, and I think a lot of us don't care. I hate how the 2-column image grid crops my images in the lesson, and they only look "normal" upon zooming. I too have to add white space around my original image to make it square. That just makes the space between the image and the caption wider, and it doesn't look great.
Sorry, I don't mean to sound rude. But I get emails when people respond to these posts, and so many of us have issues with how Rise resizes images. It's just frustrating.

I'm having a similar issue with photos in a 4-column grid. I'm putting photos of all of our senior leadership into the grid, but in about half of the photos the tops of their heads are being cut off (I've checked and it's happening for every type of device). Our marketing team wants to help me resize the images so that the full image appears, but they need some guidance. I do notice that it seems to happen more with the photos taken in portrait vs. landscape.
Thanks for any help.
Hi there Tina!
While there isn't a way to increase the size of the circular image in a Quote Carousel Block, you may want to explore using a Process Block instead?
A Process Block has much larger images, and you can set it up to function similarly to a Quote Carousel. Here's a sample of what that could look like!

Hi Alyssa. Thanks for the quick response. I saw that block and it's a little too big but I'm glad we have that option if things change again. We've decided to stick with what we have. It'll work! Thanks again!!
