I found out the difference. When you open the file, you can't just change the content within a <source> </source> Tage. You will have to create a <target> </target> Tag after the source tag, and put the new content there.

Hi FlorianHirmer,
Spot on observation! You need to use proper translation tools like Smartcat or Trados to translate XLIFF files, since they correctly generate and assign the tags needed for translation to occur.
