JAWS won't find focus or read anything on Lightbox
- 10 months ago
Hello ErinVincent,
I have some great news to share! We just released Storyline 360 Update 97, which includes the fix for the bug where screen readers didn't announce text on lightbox slides. Please update Storyline 360 in your Articulate 360 desktop app to take advantage of this fix!
Hi Jose,
I tested in that same version of JAWS and still no luck. See recording.
Hi ErinVincent,
Thanks for the additional information. After further testing, we've determined that this appears to be a bug in how the screen reader cannot read a lightbox slide's text. I've shared your test results with our product team and included this community thread in the bug report so we can notify you as soon as a fix is released.
As a workaround, consider changing your design so that, instead of lightboxing a slide, jump to it. Or, show the information on another layer within the same slide!

Thanks for the reply. Do you have any idea when a fixed might be made? We have a template with lightboxes used throughout. It's not as simple to update "in the interim". Thanks

Hi ErinVincent!
Glad to see Joe has been helping you!
I can't share a definite timeline at the moment. However, I can confirm our QA engineers are currently working on a fix for the bug preventing screenreaders from reading a light-boxed slide's text in Storyline. I see that your voice has been included in the bug report, and we'll be sure to update you as soon as a fix is in place!
In the meantime, for your reference, this is a deeper look at how we tackle bugs. Thank you for your patience. I'm sorry if this has been slowing you down!
