Multiple checkboxes that display different criteria

Can anyone help? I'm 24 straight hours in and I can't seem to figure out an easier way to do this (I know there's one).

There's a column with checkboxes, three categories and images of apples, oranges and grapes in a deselected state at the top. When put into their normal state, they will launch separate layers telling you about the fruit. For example:

Apple, Orange, Grape

Bunch, Bag, Case, Carton

Home, Store, Corporation

When you select apples, a picture of the apple (which is in it's deselected state to start) will turn go to its normal state. I want this checkbox to deselect if other fruit is selected and highlighted.

When you select from the next column, say bag, ONLY the fruit that is available in a bag should show. The rest would be deselected state again. No fruit is available in two sizes.

This is further narrowed down by the third category, etc. I also want it to work backwards, showing all fruit that's available for Stores and cartons, or even just what's available in cartons or for Home use. Fruit is available for multiple uses.

The problem really seems to be with the third category because of the multiple uses and is further compounded by the fact that if you deselect a checkbox in that third category, it doesn't reset BECAUSE of the multiple options, I think.

Maybe the answer is as simple as a clearing selections variable. Toggle isn't working.
