New Colour Selector very temperamental

Hello all,

Is anyone else finding the new Colour Selector temperamental within Storyline? I am finding that a shape/font doesn't always retain the colour I choose from a palette and I have to click the colour several times or close the palette down and reopen it to get it to retain the colour I want.

See the example video I have attached. I am trying to change the no 9. black box to a lime-green colour. The box changes to a lime-green colour fine but as soon as I go to click 'Close', the box reverts back to black (no Amy Winehouse pun intended!). The black box then refuses to change to a lime green again so I have to choose a different colour (aqua) and then close the colour picker down completely and re-open it to try again!

It's actually frustrating as it's slowing my workflow down considerably - anyone else experiencing this - or just me?!

  • I agree that the new color selector is temperamental (to put it politely). Even Articulate Guru David Anderson had problems with it during Quick Tips-Episode 90!

This should definitely be a high priority fix for Articulate. It's a vital tool, and it needs to work in all situations.

I've had the same problem. I submitted a ticket and they said it was a bug that they are investigating. In the meantime, they suggested I select my color by entering the hex value (even if it is one of the theme colors). That has seemed to work so far.

Here's the message they sent me:

    Hi Michael,

    Thanks for your video demonstration!

We've logged it as a possible software bug.

As a workaround, please choose a color from this area:

In the process of looking into this issue, we'll share your files securely with our engineering team. We'll delete them when we resolve the issue. We keep customer files for a maximum of two years, but you can request we delete the files at any time before then.

Depending on priority and risk, some bugs can be fixed quickly, while others take longer to resolve. Here's more information on how we identify and tackle bugs: https://articulate.com/support/article/How-We-Tackle-Bugs

I'll let you know as soon as we have an update on this issue. Thanks so much again for letting us know about this, and I'm sorry if it's slowing you down.

  • Thanks for your reply Michael - it is helpful. As much as I love the new Colour Selector functionality (especially the ability to create and save palettes), it does feel a bit like it hasn't been tested properly by Articulate before release! Even when I enter a hex value, the shape/font doesn't always retain the colour I want (*big sigh*).

  • Here's something that worked for me: instead of opening the Color Selector from the Format ribbon (method shown on the left), open it from within the Format Shape window (method shown on the right).

I can't promise that will always work, but it did for me in one situation with a gradient.

FYI: For those who don't know, you can open the Format Shape window by selecting that option on the pop-up window that appears when you right-click an object.

  • Thanks so much Judy. 'Format Shape' is my go-to for all my formatting needs and the problem still exists for me. Maybe I'll try the Format Ribbon instead and see if I have any joy!

  • Hi,

New to Articulate so please be patient.

I can change colours on fonts and shapes etc.. my issue is the amount of time the Colour Selector window takes to open. Doesn't matter if I'm changing font colour or a shape colour it is the time it takes to open. My last count about 5 mins ago was 18 seconds to just open the window. Anyone else have this issue?

That doesn't seem right. When I open up the colour selector window it is basically instantaneous. You might want to open up a support case.

  • Thanks for the response. I just opened a case. let's see what happens

It may be the size of my simulation with is about 45KB. That's what we are thinking but it is making me nervous that Articulate will crash and work will be lost (I'm saving every 5 mins or so). Besides the fact that it is taking forever to edit colours.
