Play and Stop buttons greyed out in Timeline
Sometimes my Play and Stop buttons are greyed out (and can't be used) in my Timeline in Storyline. What could be causing this, and how can I reactivate them?
Thanks!
Hello Everyone! ✨
I'm happy to share that we have released a new update for Storyline 360 (Build 3.76.30446.0).
In this update, we have implemented a fix for:
- Timeline preview buttons weren't always clickable.
As a first step, I recommend updating Storyline 360 to the latest version. Here's how:

Was there any resolution to this or this still a known bug? It happens to me all the time in Storyline360 and is quite frustrating. Lately moving to another slide to make the buttons reappear hasn't been working like it used to.
Hello Danielle!
I'm happy to work with you to understand exactly what you're running into! My teammate, Leslie, shared earlier in this thread that we released a fix for the bug where the Timeline preview buttons become disabled while working on a file. However, it sounds like you're still running into this bug. We are now on Storyline 360 (Build 3.50.24668.0). Which version of Storyline 360 are you using?
Also, it would be helpful to see the snag in action. Do you mind sharing a Peek with us?

7 years, and this bug hasn't been resolved yet.
Hello Igor, and welcome to E-Learning Heroes. 😊
Are you running into an issue with your timeline preview buttons? Would you be able to share a Peek 360 recording with us so that we can take a look at what you are experiencing?

This issue still happens.
And its super-annoying.
Greyed-out timeline playback buttons.
The spacebar still works to preview, but the playback buttons will just randomly grey out and (eventually un-Grey).
For a while I thought it was perhaps a background process pre-rendering or cache-ing the timeline...but after 2 years of experiencing this.....there's no logic to it that I can see.
Anyone?

Just a note that this still happens in February of 2022. I have a video-heavy course as Lyn mentions above, but I'm on a pc. Every once in awhile the play button is grayed out on the timeline. Sometimes going to another slide helps, sometimes not. Today nothing helps...

Oh, Shannon had a good image already.

This happens to me several times per hour. Apparently it's been a problem for over 7 years.
I have to save, get out of Storyline, and load it back up again.

Popping over to a new scene fixed it for me as well! I was going to share a screenshot of it greyed out but @Lyn Lucovsky fixed it for me!

This is definitely still an issue. I'm on the most recent version of Storyline 360. Jumping to a couple slides does temporarily "fix it," but it still randomly appears later.

Just confirming this is still an ongoing issue - just happened to me while I'm on a deadline for a project (!). Tried all the workarounds in the thread, none have worked so far, crossing my fingers that it starts working randomly soon :)
