Poor image quality when uploading an image with Rise
Hello,
I created and saved-for-web a .png image in Photoshop. When I uploaded it with Rise (as a centered image in my blocks-lesson), it converted it with poor quality. Is it possible to avoid those artifacts? Looks not so good when a course is viewed on PC screen.
Thank you!
Hi everyone!
Do you have an image that looks blurry in Rise 360? We've designed a workaround to keep your images looking crystal clear.
If you'd like an image to keep its specific file format and not undergo compression, you can opt-out of image optimization on a case-by-case basis. Add _NOPROCESS_ to the name of your image file. It'll upload and display exactly as you saved it. Keep in mind that the 5GB file size limit still applies, and you could see an increase in your output file size.

Here is part of the original vector image, clean and sharp :
Here is the image in Rise : lots of artefacts around the arrows and severe color banding in the gradient background.
Not acceptable!

I managed to copy the text of JC
from the reported by mistake comment:"The problem is more severe with PNG graphics than it is with JPG photos. While fiddling around to get better quality with PNGs, I found that if I save a PNG with transparency, it looks much better than the same image saved as PNG wihtout transparency. I suppose that when the transparency box is checked, Rise must respect the file format to render the transparency.
Here is my PNG image in Rise without transparency
Here is the same image with transparency
Artefacts and most banding are gone. Note that it is not necessary to have transparent areas in the image, you just have to tick the transparency checkbox when exporting to PNG.

Why is there no fix for this more than two years later? It shouldn't be that complicated. Rise is using some pretty crappy image compression tools or algorithms that need to be looked at and fixed. As a company focused on products used to create multimedia content, getting the display of images right should be one of your core competencies. Perhaps you need to hire more or better-qualified engineers and developers? Perhaps you need to focus more on fixing existing bugs like this before investing resources in developing new features? This is not a problem that should go unresolved for 2+ years.

2.5 years now...

This is the main reason I have stopped my subscription with Articulate. Not only has it been 2 and a half years since this problem was raised with no resolution but it has been 2 and a half years of 'we're working on it' and 'it's in our pipline' and 'it's on our bug list' and 'we know about this problem'. Not once has an Articulate member of staff had the decency to be honest with us - as paying customers - and explain the real reason why it's still unresolved. Images are so important that it bewilders me that it is still an issue. I have lost patience and am voting with my feet. My subscription has ended and I won't be renewing it. It's Adobe Captivate for me from here on in! Adios!

Hi wonderful community. I posted this a few months ago, but thought it would be helpful to post again. We completely solved this using high quality GIFs. For some reason these render perfectly in Rise. Even super high resolution PNG's were looking awful as many of you have sighted already, but the GIF solution works beautifully until there is a more substantial software fix. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Tried using .gifs and they seem to work much better.
Thanks

Hi, as we head to towards the end of September, is there a fix for this issue?
- JanDusekCommunity Member
It would be great to have a more general solution. Either in the form of a better compression algorithm or a course- or system-wide switch that would prevent the recompression from ever being applied.
I compress all raster images using dedicated tools (jpegmini, optimage). But then I forget to add the _NOPROCESS_ suffix on about every 5th image, which results in Rise recompressing the image, reducing its quality significantly and making the file larger at the same time.

We have been asking the same thing for maybe 2 years now. Still no checkbox/switch in the program to turn it off!
Hi Sofia! Yes, you can use this with any image you upload to Rise 360! I'm glad that was helpful for you. 🙂

Hi Irina, because of the poor image quality, we use a workaround. We copy our jpg or png in a svg format in Illustrator and upload it as an svg. With this workaround, the jpgs keeps the normal quality.

Hi, Medien! Thanks so much for sharing your workaround!

do you have a better solution?

This was working for me until last week. Saving with svg format is doing the same as a png. And the _NOPROCESS_ has never worked for me. Any other workarounds to solve this issue?
