Poor image quality when uploading an image with Rise
Hello,
I created and saved-for-web a .png image in Photoshop. When I uploaded it with Rise (as a centered image in my blocks-lesson), it converted it with poor quality. Is it possible to avoid those artifacts? Looks not so good when a course is viewed on PC screen.
Thank you!
Hi everyone!
Do you have an image that looks blurry in Rise 360? We've designed a workaround to keep your images looking crystal clear.
If you'd like an image to keep its specific file format and not undergo compression, you can opt-out of image optimization on a case-by-case basis. Add _NOPROCESS_ to the name of your image file. It'll upload and display exactly as you saved it. Keep in mind that the 5GB file size limit still applies, and you could see an increase in your output file size.
Thanks for sharing those original images, Michelle. I also saw a loss of quality when I uploaded those files to a multiple choice quiz question.
Our team is looking at ways we can improve image quality in Rise. As we make new developments on this, we'll make sure you're in the know!

Would be nice to be able to set the compression inside Rise or turn it off completely pls.

I agree we need more choice. PNG vector artwork looks garbage when compressed into low quality jpg, artifacts all over the place and edges are not crisp and clear. At least allow us to chose a format and quality setting. At a min I would suggest having a button to select the RISE compression or no compression. I have had to use a Storyline block to get nice PNGs through.

Hi, I am also having the same issue. Uploading any images, PNG, JPG, they all become blurry.

Having the same issue here. It seems uploading photographic images in JPEG or PNG renders fine on Rise - but as long as it is outputted from Photoshop - with any sort of composition on top of it, the image quality deteriorates dramatically. I've temporarily resigned to exporting from Photoshop (2019) to GIF and uploading - regardless if it is a photographic or illustrated image for now as GIF produces a more visually tolerable image deterioration when compressed.

Hi Zachary,
This suggestion from Daniel Nyakana (posted about 5mths ago) might help you (thank you Daniel N.!!)

For all those experiencing this problem I found a straight forward workaround that's very easy and will give you 100% full quality image resolution without any loss at all.Whether you save for scorm or tin can or web the zipped files that are produced contain:
If saved for scorm a folder named: scormcontent > assets
In this folder are all the images you used in your course simply find the image that was loosing quality and replace it with the original image - be sure to name it with the same name as the one your replacing. Simple as that.
If save for web, go into: content > assets
In this folder pretty much do the same as the above direction.
Quick update to the above post:
Make sure to use a (.jpg) extension for the new image which you paste in the folder. This is the extension that gets written in the final files. If you use an image that happens to be a (.png) for example it won't take it and the image will look broken or missing even though you named it the exact name and that's because in the code RISE writes a (.jpg) extension.
Hack #101 from Daniel - more hacks to come :)
Reach out to me if you need any help.

This is NOT a good suggestion Alex. Although it is a workaround you would have to replace the images every time you output the course - not great!
We want Articulate to sort this problem out in RISE itself rather than rely on time intensive workarounds after publishing.

Hi there, I was hoping you or Daniel (sorry I can't find him to tag him) could help me with a query:
Does this hack work for images used in labelled graphics?
Cheers,
Nury

Hi Nury, I am not sure I am sorry as I haven't tried it. Probably worth an experiment tho.

Alex

I agree completely Paul! But seeing as Irina Poloubessov posted the initial message in this thread over a year ago, it seems Articulate are not going to resolve this any time soon. So needs must!
Hi Paul and Alex,
Thank you sharing your feedback here.
Our team is aware of this issue and I’ll update you both here as soon as I know more.

Any update to better quality of images after uploading? I saw the recommendation of using a PNG which I tried in the past and that looks even worse than the jpg when I upload - very grainy to be exact.
Hi CT Learning,
Thanks for reaching out! Right now, we don't have any updates to share but we'll share any news here. I did want to share a link to this handy article on best practices for images in Rise 360 that might be helpful.
Let me know if I can help with anything else!

I second that Paul!!!
Hi Paul and Alex,
I'm sorry that this issue has been such a pain point for you.
I don’t currently have any updates, but you are now subscribed to this conversation which means as we share updates here, you’ll automatically be notified.

One more workaround that I use in my courses, I use Illustrator to create vector graphics. The image with text can be created as SVG and placed it in the course. The quality is good but click to zoom function make the image smaller. So I will remove the click to zoom functionality.

Hi Allison,
I'm pretty sure that this issue is a pain point for more than you might think.
I couldn't wait for your solution and had to start rolling-out my projects with the poor image quality. Instead of seeing the value of elearning experience, my learners now only complain about the poor picture quality.
Unfortunately this flaw seems to outweigh the content of my learning projects and since we are just starting with elearning, it doesn't help to get a good overall starting acceptance of elearning. My boss already told me to look into alternatives. I thus hope you find a solution soon as I'm not keen on having to dive into a new tool again.
Thanks for your understanding and best regards
Roland
