Quiz not allowing student to select answer choice in quiz
Hello folks,
I'm hoping someone has had a similar situation and been able to find a solution. I have quizzes that contain multiple choice questions. There have been reports from students that are sometimes unable to select an answer choice. The blue highlight bar that normally appears while hovering over an answer choice does not appear and when clicking on an answer choice it is not selected (i.e. the radio button does not show that it has been selected). Interestingly everything else that can be clicked in the quiz works, including the volume slider, previous and next buttons, and the question list dropdown menu.
The quizzes are delivered via an LMS and are published in QM'13 using SCORM 2004, 4th ed. I don't believe the problem to be a browser issue as I've switched browsers and the same problem occurs.
What's makes this even more difficult to solve is that it only happens intermittently. Most students are able to get through the same quizzes with no problems.
Any ideas? Would you lean towards this problem being caused by the LMS or a glitch in QM'13?
Thanks for any feedback any of you might be able to provide.
Best,
Steven
Hi Steven!
The best test is to utilize SCORM Cloud which helps us determine if the issue is Articulate related or if it's on your LMS's side. If it appears in SCORM Cloud as well, we'd be happy to take a closer look at what might be going on. If you can't replicate the issue in SCORM Cloud, it's probably an issue that you'd want to take to your LMS team.- AaronAndersonCommunity Member
I am having the same issue with a small and occasional population of our students. When logging in as the particular student experiencing the issue, we are able to replicate. When logging in under our own accounts, the course works fine. We've found that the use of Tab and Space or Enter works with the multiple choice quiz questions. However, for drag and drop or matching, this option does not work. Clearing the attempt in the LMS and starting the course over seems to resolve the issue for us, but it's unknown what is causing this to occur (Articulate Quizmaker or LMS). I've attached a Jing screencast of the issue so that the experience can be shared and perhaps a fix determined in Articulate if that's where the issue lies.

Hi Aaron,
Sorry to hear that some of your users are experiencing this same issue. Sadly I never found a solution. Like you, I can replicate the issue when I log in as a student who is experiencing the problem, but have never been able to make it happen on my own.
The LMS I use says it's something wrong with Articulate and Articulate says it's something wrong with the LMS. A person I spoke with at Articulate said I'd need to have my end users install some special software that would record the communication going back and forth between the course and the LMS to try and troubleshoot the problem. Unfortunately I'm not able to ask my end users to do something like this and continue to have to deal with this problem. I just reset the course when it happens and go through it to get them to the point where they got stuck. Hardly a good use of my time, but it's the only solution I have at this point.
I am going to be changing to a new LMS in the next few months, so I'll be interested to see if the problem still occurs after making the switch. If it does, I'll be inclined to believe that it's an Articulate problem. If not, then the LMS would be suspect.
Check back with me in a few months and I'll be happy to let you know what the outcome of switching to the new LMS has been as it pertains to this issue.
Good luck in your efforts to find a solution to this problem. I hope you have better luck that I did! And feel free to touch base with me if you have any specific questions about my experience.
Thanks,
Steven
Thanks Steven for popping back in to assist Aaron here.
Aaron, you are welcome to test your content in SCORM Cloud as I shared above to see if you can identify where your issue lies.

I have just downloaded Quizmaker 13 for trial and have the same problem. Multiple choice answers wont select. The quiz has been saved in web format.
Hi Debbe,
Can you tell us more about where you're hosting your quiz and testing it? If you're testing it locally that may be a part of the problem you're running into, and you may want to look at testing it within one of the web servers in this article.

Aaron,
Did you ever have any luck with this issue? I wanted to let you know that I recently changed to a new LMS (a very good one!) and we're still having the same problem with embedded quizzes.
Hopefully you found a way to deal with it. We've given up and are going to pull out all the embedded quizzes from the presentation and just make them standalone quizzes.
Thanks,
Steven
Hi Steven! I'm not sure if Aaron is still subscribed, so be sure to utilize the 'Contact Me' option on his profile if needed :)

I am having no end of problems with the quizmaker quizzes now that I have migrated from Studio 9 to Studio 13. This thread is the closest I have found to the problem I am experiencing.
When the problem happens I can open the lesson as a student and see the problem.
Multiple students will encounter the same problem if they hit the same question.
If I republish sometimes it seems like the problem goes away and sometimes it doesn't.
I notice that many of the questions appear to not show both correct and incorrect feedback, just incorrect feedback, but I haven't confirmed if that is a trend. Just something odd that I noticed.
All I can say is that this is beyond frustrating. I am convinced that there must be some problem with the transition of quizmaker 09 to 13 files and I haven't found the right article. These are quizzes that have been in production for years.
Please see if you can point me in any direction before I waste a load of time trying to load files to attempt to recreate this. Since the quizzes are randomized its really a pain trying to testing the fixes.
Hi Deborah!
I see where you have also reached out to our support team (00719898). I would advise that you continue working with them to get to the root of the issue.
If anyone in the community has experience/insight as well they are welcome to chime in.
