Reducing SCORM Size

Hello,

Here is my situation. My customer's LMS only supports SCORM packages of 500 MB. We have a course that is 616MB. We reduced the size of the videos, PDF's and pictures significantly. This got our SCORM down to 525.

Does anyone have any suggestions to make the SCORM smaller without sacrificing content or hosting the videos through a 3rd party (ie Vimeo)?

  • Hello Robin,

    Thanks for reaching out!

I recommend opening a case with our support team and sharing your Rise 360 course with us so we can publish it and identify which file/s are adding the most to the file size.

For your reference, there is a folder in the published output called "~/scormcontent/assets" which will contain all of your course's media files. The contents inside this folder will give you an idea of which files you need to edit or reduce to bring the final course size down to less than 500 MB.

  • While there are manual ways to reduce size of the your SCORM media, and there ways to spread out the media in CDNs, but these ways could be time taking and at times not feasible.

Using SCORM compressor like doctorelearning can be one of the solution, that way your entire SCORM medias can be compressed in one go and at different level of granularity.

That ways you dont have to sacrifice anything in your content and can have a leaner output.
