Retrieve story file from drive or zip file

Hi folks,

My colleague left the company and did not share the story file of a project.

Do you know if we can retrieve a story file from the published course or from the articulate drive, please.

Thanks for your help

Jessica

  • Hi jfit! Thanks for reaching out! I know it can be tricky when a teammate leaves and you're trying to find their courses.

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to recover the original .story file from a published course or from Articulate servers because we don’t store user project files or backups. The file would need to have been saved and shared locally or through a cloud drive like OneDrive or Google Drive.

Here are a few places you might check:

    • Your colleague’s computer (if it’s still accessible)
    • Shared folders, cloud storage, or email attachments
    • The folder where the published output was saved—sometimes the .story file is stored there too
    • With your IT team to see if they have access to system or file backups

Also, if the course was published to Review 360, there’s a chance the .story file was uploaded with it. When publishing to Review 360, authors can choose to include the source file so it’s downloadable right from the course page.

I hope you're able to track it down quickly!

  • The .story file is not included in the published course.

If the person published the course to Review 360 and uploaded the file there, the Articulate staff could probably get it for you. Contact them here: https://access.articulate.com/support/contact

You could also contact your IT department about whether they can search the person's laptop (assuming they had a company PC that was turned in).

Otherwise, you'll have to create the course in Storyline from scratch. (You can pull assets from the published course.)
