Seeking e-learning designer
As an SME in particular areas of government, I have established a startup to develop specialised online content. I've engaged a development consultant, we have the outlines of a series of 30-min programs, and there is significant demand. As a former lecturer, I know what key messages learners need and can explain this.
I am also looking to develop bespoke material for use in government, not something generic or 'flashy'. I'm not keen on cartoons & prefer things like word matching to check understanding. I'd like the programs to have a professional yet distinctive look & feel. (Think blues & greens, not reds & oranges.) The programs are fairly straightforward - mainly risk, governance, risk and cyber technology - not a super complicated "choose your own adventure" extravaganza.
I've spent the last 6 months learning about storyboards and such. I am now looking for an ongoing educational design partner to bring the content to life in a professional, engaging and time effective manner. The last part is quite critical: I already work long hours in a day job.
I can prepare 90% of a script, set out learning objectives, describe key concepts, write quiz questions and such. What I need is advice & practical support to make the content engaging. I have an Articulate license & can do the basics, but I'm not able to spend huge amounts of time fiddling with its numerous parts & functions.
(To explain: the last consultant said "just send me whatever you like".... but then took 4.5 months to produce a 10 min show-reel due to the volume of back & forth, spelling mistakes, failing to note feedback and such. I don't want to spend 8 weeks of back and forth developing a complex 'storyboard' if the flow of content can just as easily be understood in a dozen dot points.)
Despite my current exasperation, I'm actually quite fun. I always ensure my students have a good in the classroom when lecturing, because people learn far more. If you think you may be a good fit, contact me at lj.young@optusnet.com.au
Let me know (1) what your experience in educational design is, (2) describe your general style of work, (3) how would you suggest developing content in a time-effective manner, and (4) how long would you expect to take to deliver a fully-functional 30-min online program (all going well)?
I'm based in Australia. I don't mind where you are located, but do want someone experienced. References will also be part of any formal engagement. Access to a voice artist and accessibility testing would be well regarded.
For the right person or company - who can get the job done with minimal fuss - this opportunity may be significant and ongoing.
