Using Elapsed Time Variables with Scoring

Good afternoon! I am working on a project where I'm trying to capture the learner's time on a slide using the Slide.ElapsedTime variable. This time is added to a cumulative variable, AssociateTime. Some of the slides have audio, so I've added the length of the audio to AssociateTime variable on those slides. 

I'm also using hotspot and pick one freeform questions. On the slides where I use these questions, the Slide.ElapsedTime variable does not fire. I've added a text box with the AssociateTime variable reference to check, and it's not accumulating. I took off the freeform questions and the variables report fine. 

I am missing something here - could someone take a look at the source file and see if you can figure out why this is happening? Any information you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
