Using keyboard to progress slides

Hi,

So we are looking to use Storyline to create CAI content. Now this has to mirror how PowerPoint works. I.e. can jump to next/previous slide using either the mouse or keyboard (clickers are not being used).

So I can create a rectangle shape around the whole slide and use the mouse to click on this to progress, much like PowerPoint.

What I am having great difficulty with is using the keyboard. I can create a trigger that says jump to slide X using NUM3 but it then says after clicking this slide. So what you have to do in preview is click on the slide then hit the NUM3 key. WHY?? This is soooo odd, why can I not just hit the NUM3 key to jump to next slide??

Any work arounds to this or anything?

Thanks.

  • It should just work without clicking it is there to ensure the slide has focus.

  • Hello KellySheehan-da,

Phil is correct. Having the "after clicking..." condition in the trigger ensures that the learner doesn't get abruptly moved to the next slide when the user accidentally presses the K key.

This condition allows authors to include elements such as text input boxes without triggering the jump trigger.
